A huge thank you to the incredible corporate volunteer groups who joined us recently and rolled up their sleeves to make a difference--Stantec, Deloitte, and Wade Trim!

Despite working through a heat advisory, these dedicated volunteers tackled some major projects:
🌿 Weeded our native plant specimen gardens
🐭 Built rodent exclosures to protect young saplings from predation
💧 Cleaned and maintained neighborhood rain gardens that help protect local waterways

The work we do to restore habitats, grow native plants, and care for our communities simply wouldn't be possible without volunteers who generously donate their time and energy. Every w**d pulled, sapling protected, and rain garden restored helps create a healthier environment for both people and wildlife.

Thank you for helping us turn conservation goals into conservation action. Together, we're proving that meaningful change happens through partnership.

Wetlands are nature’s protectors: filtering water, reducing floods, and creating space for wildlife to thrive. These ecosystems store carbon, improve water quality, and provide critical habitat for countless species.

We work every day to restore and protect wetlands across Northeast Ohio because when wetlands are healthy, our communities are too.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise! 🎉

Just two months after installation at Creekside Collaborative Partners, our Purple Martin gourds already have residents. We’ve been spotting five Purple Martins around the site over the past week, and all signs suggest they’re settling in and making themselves at home.

Providing nesting habitat is an important step in supporting these remarkable aerial insectivores, and we’re thrilled to see such a quick response. Here’s hoping this is the beginning of a thriving Purple Martin colony at Creekside! 🐦💜

The growing season is well underway at our nursery at Creekside Collaborative Partners! Our amazing volunteers have been helping out with w**ding and general cleanup, up-potting plant inventory, building protective propagation caging, moving plants, and caring for our wildflower gardens. All of this effort supports the next season of restoration work ahead.

We’re grateful to everyone helping us prepare for a busy season of planting and restoration. Check out our events page and register for any upcoming volunteer events: https://westcreek.org/events/

We recently caught this curious little garter snake peeking out from between the nursery pots at Creekside Collaborative Partners, and we couldn't resist sharing!

While snakes often get a bad reputation, garter snakes are some of the most beneficial wildlife you can find in a garden or restoration nursery. These harmless reptiles help keep ecosystems in balance by feeding on insects, slugs, earthworms, and other small creatures.

Native plant nurseries provide more than just plants—they also create habitat. The spaces between pots, patches of vegetation, and moist, sheltered areas can offer refuge for all kinds of native wildlife, from pollinators and frogs to helpful snakes like this one.

Seeing wildlife make use of these spaces is a reminder that restoration isn't just about planting native species—it's about rebuilding the relationships between plants, animals, and the habitats they depend on.

Next time you spot a garter snake, take a moment to appreciate one of nature's quiet conservation partners!

Common Snapping Turtle at Casement Springs Preserve in Painesville Township.

She was about 16”, and appeared to have laid 30 eggs. Most Common Snapping Turtles will lay between 25-80 at a time.

The biggest threat to her offspring is by far raccoon egg predation while they are still in the nest.
