A heartfelt, Transplant House thank you to Lisa Grossman who was this week's dinner volunteer. Lisa treated our guests to a delicious meal of chicken pasta, caesar salad, garlic bread, and a fruit and chocolate salad for dessert!

Lisa was drawn to our mission because her son, now 24, recieved a kidney transplant when he was 21 years old. Lisa understands well the journey our guest families are on and the importance of feeling cared for and supported throughout that journey.

Our meal volunteers like Lisa make such a difference here for our guests. They bring community and fellowship to patients and caregivers when they need those things most. 🏠❤️🧡

Last year, Aaron and Sara stayed at the House while Aaron was undergoing a liver transplant. They both found kindness and support from the community around them. Now, they are registered to participate in this year’s event.

Their story is a powerful reminder of why this event matters and how your support helps transplant patients and their families when they need it most.

Whether you are a caregiver, transplant patient, donor, sponsor, or volunteer, you are part of this community, and we are grateful.

Stories of our former guests often come full circle, and Beth and Robert Ruff’s story is no different.

Returning to Cleveland for a follow-up appointment, Beth and Robert stopped by the House with a special gift: a handwoven rug crafted by Beth herself. As former guests, they wanted to donate the rug as a token of their appreciation. Transplant House meant a great deal to them both, and they wanted to return the favor.

Their thoughtful donation will make the House feel even more welcoming for future transplant patients and caregivers traveling away from home. Gestures like this remind us of the lasting connections formed here and the generosity of those who choose to give back.

We are deeply grateful to Beth and Robert for their kindness and support. To learn more about Beth’s weaving business, the Loom Room, visit www.theloomroomruff.com.

Our 9th Annual 5K Run 1 Mile Walk event is less than TWO weeks away, and registration is still open!

"While Aaron fought for his life, I'm not sure I could have survived without the folks at the Transplant House of Cleveland. I will never forget the love and kindness they showed my family on our darkest days. They embraced us from the first day we walked in, and their support never stopped throughout our 14 day stay."

During Aaron’s recovery from his liver transplant, unexpected complications required several emergency trips back to the OR, and his caregiver, Sara, found support, kindness, and a sense of belonging at the House when she needed it most. Five months later, they are both registered to participate in this year’s event! We can’t think of a better symbol for the healing power of organ donation or for the spirit of this event as first imagined by its founder and fellow transplant recipient, Brian Vitale.

Stories like theirs remind us why community matters. Whether you are a caregiver, transplant patient, donor, sponsor, or volunteer, you are part of that community, and we are grateful for your support.

➡️ Registration is $30 until the day of the event and includes a t-shirt (a virtual option is available if you won’t be in Cleveland).

Dinner is served! Thank you, Kathleen Valdez, for your lovely meal of barbeque chicken, pasta salad, rice, and green salad. It was greatly enjoyed by all!

These weekly meals are always an integral source of camaraderie and community for our guests and caregivers. Around the table, we share stories, laughter and advice–offering both physical and emotional nourishment throughout the transplant journey.

We appreciate all the hard work of the volunteers who make each Wednesday dinner possible! Any guest is welcome to join us each week from 5 pm until 7 pm.

In the past month, we celebrated two bell ringings- Kenneth Popp and William Moore! Kenneth, who received a double lung transplant, returned home to New York, whereas William, who received a liver transplant, headed back to West Virginia. We hope their time back at home has been restful, rejuvenating, and filled with family and friends.

For our guests, bell ringings are a time of great joy but can also be bittersweet. While patients and caregivers are excited to return home, they leave the community they have built during their stay at Transplant House. However, there is peace of mind knowing the friendships they have made and our community support extend far beyond their time here. Our doors are always open!

We extend our gratitude to the donors who made these milestones possible. Their selfless decision provided Kenneth and William with a second chance at life and the opportunity to return home to the people who matter most.
