New City Cleveland is a non-profit community organization in the Buckeye-Woodhill area of Cleveland.

We exist to empower a neighborhood through faith, equity and justice. We provide services for moms, for youth during the summers and for resident seniors. Our vision is to see faith communities and neighborhood residents brought together as God’s beloved community. Through these transformative relationships with one another, we experience God’s love and the power of the gospel to heal from individual and systemic brokenness and make our city new.

We love our neighborhood, and pray God’s continuous restoration in it!

We went out to the first annual Buckeye Neighborhood Festival this weekend!!! There were hundreds of neighbors, interactive activities, and community engagement. We set up a table and met so many good people— from neighborhood mamas, students interested in joining workday, and countless other important neighborhood orgs. Such an encouraging time! May the streets continue to buzz with community love & engagement, and let’s see more people at Mamastrong, Workday and SummerStrong! We love our neighborhood 🎉

MamaStrong Mom’s Circle meets today, September 11th, at 6pm at Calvary Hill Church of God in Christ.

It’s all about encouragement, community, and gospel-centered support, and THIS month, we’re cooking up new strategies to feed the familly on a budget, because, grocery prices! Right?!?

When the city fails to show up, the community comes through!

Yesterday we tried to get the city’s attention because Artha Woods Park desperately needed to be mowed. Artha Woods often goes neglected, along with other historically redlined neighborhood gathering spaces.

We fought to get the attention of the city yesterday, and yet there was silence. Good news is, even when the systems fail, the community rises up. And they did!

Big shout out to Rev. Baker, a neighborhood leader who saved game day with the New Image Block Association’s riding mower.

Kickball is BACK, y’all, and we’re gathering in this park all summer. We won’t stop advocating for our community spaces, and we hope you don’t either 👏

Meet Owen Stuart, New City Cleveland’s new Board Chair! 🎉

Owen grew up in central Ohio and moved to Cleveland about 8 years ago. By day, he works in consumer research for Nestlé. He’s also a massive board game fan, getting together with friends nearly every week to play!

What Owen loves most about New City Cleveland is watching neighbors’ lives transformed and discovering a whole new way to advance the Gospel and the kingdom of God with words and deeds.

NCC is run by the community, for the community. Owen believes that all neighbors have dignity and worth, and that everyone can contribute to building up the community. For example, our teens in Workday help shovel snow for seniors — who in turn offer advice and workforce training to the teens.

We are so grateful for Owen’s service to New City over many years and in various capacities, and for how he’s encouraged us as a team. Welcome to this new role, Owen! 🙌

“With liberty and justice for all.” We say those words together every year, usually without thinking too hard about them — they’re just part of the Fourth, right alongside the grilling and the fireworks.

This year, Bryan Stevenson’s words have been sitting with us: “The opposite of poverty is not wealth. In too many places, the opposite of poverty is justice.” It’s a good question to ask on a holiday built around the idea of freedom. What does liberty really mean without justice holding it up? Because the truth is, freedom and justice don’t reach every block in our city the same way. Some neighborhoods have gotten the promise. Others are still waiting on it.

We don’t think loving this country and wanting it to live up to its own words are in conflict — we think that’s the whole point. That’s the work we get to do every day at New City, alongside our neighbors, in this city we love.

So today we’re grilling, we’re grateful, and we’re recommitting to the “for all.” How about you?

Happy Juneteenth, New City family! Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and hope. It serves us as a moment to renew our commitment toward pursuing joy wholeheartedly and as an act of resistance against the injustices that still weigh down our communities. Though the road to restoration and reconciliation is long, hope is also always moving toward us. Hope is a powerful force – and today the celebration of Juneteeth reminds us all that, sooner or later, hope will reach us wherever we are because faith, hope and love have the final say!
