We had a wonderful day bringing together seniors and staff from all of our family centers for a fun-filled day at Wiegand Lake Park in Geauga County!

Seniors from St. Martin de Porres, Fatima Family Center - Catholic Charities, the Hispanic Senior Center, and Good Shepherd enjoyed games, paddle boats, dancing, and a memorable time together.

At Catholic Charities, our Older Adult Services are designed to help seniors stay connected, supported, and engaged in their communities. From day programs and case management to home-delivered meals, we offer a variety of services to meet individual needs.

At Catholic Charities’ Early Learning Programs, we believe in supporting the whole family.

When Tai first enrolled her daughters in the program, car troubles made it difficult for her to get her children to school. Our staff continued to check in with her and were even able to provide bus passes for Tai and her family to help ease the transportation challenges.

“It's not just a daycare where you drop off your kids, they take that extra step to support you.”

That extra support is at the heart of what we do.

Our Early Learning Programs work closely with families to help children build the skills they need to be ready for kindergarten. Teachers set goals and objectives for each child and regularly meet with parents to discuss their child’s progress.

Because early childhood education provides the foundation for lifelong learning, Catholic Charities Early Learning & Head Start offers a high-quality, comprehensive approach that supports both children and families.

“It's a blessing in the community.”

For Jose, enrolling his two sons in Catholic Charities’ Early Learning Programs was the beginning of something that would benefit his entire family.

After a recommendation from someone he knew, Jose enrolled his sons in the program. Since then, his children have been able to build a strong foundation for learning before kindergarten, while Jose has found a community and new opportunities to get involved.

“It's a village... You know your kids are well taken care of. They're safe, and they're learning,”

Through the Male Advocate group, Jose has contributed to fatherhood events, helped start conversations about mental health, brainstormed new activities for children and more.

His involvement has even taken him to a conference in Washington, D.C., where he was honored with the Favorite Father Award!

Jose’s story is a reminder of the impact that happens when families, parents and communities come together.

Stacy’s diagnosis is only one part of her story.

After being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, Stacy felt depressed, isolated, and defined by her diagnosis. She had participated in other support groups and organizations, but often felt like people saw her for what was “wrong” with her rather than who she was.

That changed when she found Pathways Peer Support.

“The focus is on the individual and not what’s wrong with me, but what has happened [and] why do I act like that.”

Through Pathways, Stacy rediscovered her self-worth and confidence—and today, she’s using her experiences to help others. She volunteers with multiple organizations, serves on the board of Appleseed Community Mental Health Center, and has even led support groups for people walking a similar path.

Her diagnosis doesn’t define her. Her resilience does.

Pathways Peer Support offers recovery-focused groups and programming designed to build positive relationships, develop coping skills, and remind people that they are more than their diagnosis.

At 38 years old, Stacy began a journey that would change the way she saw herself—and her future.

After leaving an abusive marriage, Stacy began opening up about the trauma she had experienced as a child. Sharing her story with her aunt was a turning point and the first step toward understanding her mental health.

After being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, Stacy connected with several groups and organizations. But too often, she felt like her diagnosis was the only thing people saw in her.

That changed when a friend introduced her to the Pathways Peer Support Program in Ashland County.

At Pathways, Stacy began discovering who she was beyond her diagnosis—and recognizing the strengths and gifts she had to offer.

“Prior to Pathways I was depressed. I thought I was this crazy mental illness person. I felt like I had nothing to give. I felt stifled... It's a well kept secret in Ashland that needs to be exposed to everybody.”

Stacy’s story is a reminder that a diagnosis does not define a person. With the right support, hope and connection, people can rediscover their identity and see what’s possible.
