Today, we celebrate and honor Juneteenth, the day commemorating the official end of slavery.

In 1865, troops arrived in Galveston to read General Orders No. 3: "The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with the proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free."

As we reflect on our shared history, we reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every person and to building communities rooted in justice, compassion, and love.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end, we want to leave you with a few things you can incorporate in your day to continue to take care of your mental health.

▪Be physically active: 30 minutes a day can boost your mood and improve your health!
▪Connect with others: Reach out to friends and family for emotional support and help when needed
▪Practice mindfulness: Pay attention and try to be present in the moment.

If practicing these few tips doesn't seem to be working or you feel like you may need more help, our team at Catholic Charities is here to listen.

Please visit ccdocle.org/MentalHealth to learn more about our in-person and telehealth visits.

As a mom of three and proud grandma of 15, Sharon Carter wasn’t ready for a quiet, empty nest. Instead, she chose to fill her home—and her heart—by giving back to her community through foster care.

What began as a simple step with Cuyahoga County turned into something bigger after a friend introduced her to Catholic Charities’ Foster Care program. Sharon reached out—and never looked back.

Just a year and a half later, she has already welcomed two children into her home. Even more inspiring, her most recent foster child was able to reunite with their family—a moment that makes every step of the journey worthwhile!

Right now, thousands of children and teens are in foster care, and the need for loving homes has never been greater.

“There needs to be more people concerned about these kids,” Sharon says. “If we don’t help them, who will? Just open your door—open your heart.”

Foster parenting isn’t without its challenges, but you’re never alone. Sharon shares, “I have no complaints with Catholic Charities—they did exactly what they said they would do: be there for me.”

This Memorial Day, we pause in prayer and gratitude for the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. May we honor their sacrifice by living lives rooted in faith, compassion, and peace.

We invite you to join us in prayer for Memorial Day:

God of power and mercy,
you destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
