We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of former MRS client, Mary Deng, who resettled to Cleveland from South Sudan in 2017. She leaves behind five children (ages 6–21), now cared for by her eldest daughter, Aduk, and her sister, Rubi. Mary was the definition of resilience, and everyone who met her felt her strength and kindness.

World Refugee Day 2025 emphasizes the importance of showing solidarity with refugees through words, beliefs and actions like understanding their journeys, supporting their rights, and working toward solutions that allow them to live in safety and thrive. Let us honor the strength and courage of those who have been forced to flee their homes due to violence or persecution. We stand with refugees and say clearly that they are not alone and we will not turn our backs.
