Most professionals measure their worth by output. Deals closed. Projects shipped. Inboxes emptied. We live inside metrics and deadlines, and somewhere along the way, we start to believe everything depends on us. If we do not show up, the whole thing stalls. If we do not produce, nothing moves.

That lie does not stay at the office. It creeps into our faith. We start thinking God’s work in the world depends on our effort, our competence, and our willingness to carry the load. Calling begins to feel like pressure. Obedience begins to feel like a weight. Service, at the desk or in the sanctuary, starts to feel like a strain.

John 21 tells a different story. Read more here: https://www.cbmcint.com/your-output-is-not-his-mission/

CBMC is growing, and God is moving in the hearts of men in the Eastern suburbs of Cleveland. Last Thursday, we had another powerful (and free) 2nd Thursday Coffee Connections at Tanglewood Golf Club.

Our guest speaker, Steve Terrell, encouraged us not to find our identity in common traps of selfishness, lust, and greed but in a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. Powerful testimony and great, authentic conversations followed.

12 men stuck around to play nine holes of golf, too!

Join us next month on July 9th at 7-8 am with John Zaller, sharing his compelling journey to faith as an adult and how that has affected his identity, family, and the way he does business. Don't forget the bonus golf option!

When I was a boy, people would repeat the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” That sounded correct, since sticks and stones can certainly inflict physical damage. However, life has taught me that words can be just as hurtful; they just affect us emotionally and mentally.

There is no greater evidence of this than with the development and escalation of what has been called “cyberbullying.” Individuals, especially young people, are being targeted on social media, text messages, and emails with vicious verbal attacks. Sadly, too many of these vulnerable children and teenagers have suffered great distress as a consequence, sometimes resulting in su***de. The marketplace exposes weight fast. A deal falls apart. A trusted leader walks away. The numbers dip. The board wants answers now. Your team is watching you, trying to read your face. At home, the pressure does not let up. Decisions wait. Conversations linger. And somewhere in the middle of it all, the thought creeps in and will not leave: This is too much for me.

That moment tells you something. Not just about the situation, but about what you believe. We assume the weight is too heavy and we are too weak. That is the reflex. But what if that is not true? What if the weight is not misplaced? What if it were measured?

Scripture keeps pressing against our instinct to run from pressure. Noah carried the burden of obedience when no one else understood. Joseph bore betrayal and delay before stepping into leadership. Moses stood before Pharaoh with a stutter and a staff. Daniel held his ground in a hostile system that wanted to reshape him. These were not men who avoided weight. They were men shaped under it. We Do Not Work Just for Ourselves

When many people go to work, their motivation is typically self-oriented. They need to earn a living. They need to provide for their family. They need to have enough money to support their chosen lifestyle. They have found a vocation they are passionate about – they enjoy the work they do; it feels rewarding; it gives them a sense of affirmation and meaning.

None of these is wrong in itself. Each can be a reasonable byproduct of the work we do. However, even the smartest, most talented, most experienced person cannot accomplish everything that needs to be done all on their own. A “me-centered” approach to our work – and life – can be disastrous. Read more here: https://www.cbmcint.com/we-do-not-work-just-for-ourselves/

It usually starts with a screen glowing back at you. A spreadsheet. A forecast. A set of numbers that refuse to behave. The margin is thin. The pressure is real. People are looking to you for an answer, and everything in front of you says the same thing: This is not enough.

That moment is common in the marketplace. It is also sacred ground, the place where beliefs and values and convictions are put to the test. The question is, will we pass the test – or fail? READ MORE here: https://cbmc.com/blog/when-the-numbers-do-not-work/
