EYEJ: Empowering Youth, Exploring Justice EYEJ drives social justice reform by empowering young people to advocate for change.

EYEJ's mission of creating and cultivating Changemakers achieved through building self-valed leaders through customized discussions with youth about justice issues that impact their lives in the YDJ: Youth Discussing Justice program and a Youth Council that fosters the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to advocate for positive social change. Established in 2013, having served over 1,700 unique underserved young persons.

On Monday, August 15, join past and current members of the EYEJ Youth Council for the 5th Annual Town Hall. Each year, the Town Hall presents an opportunity for EYEJ to reflect on and celebrate our social justice work while reflecting on the issues that impact youth across Cleveland.

This year, we will have a robust conversation exploring the past, present, and future of the digital divide led by our distinguished guests from PCs for People and the Centers for Community Solutions. Together we will discuss how far we have come and what it will take for greater digital equity and access for all.

🎓Yesterday, our Co-Founder; Mai Moore was Commencement Speaker at Promise Academy’s 2022 spring graduation where she celebrated the graduates.

🎉 Mai spoke about being curious, being proactive, to focus and follow your dreams and create the change within yourself and your community that you want to see, what are you waiting for, the ups and downs of life, to not give up and how magical it is that you have yourself.

❤️6th graders showing love for our community from in light of the recent school shooting in our YDJ session today

🗣Young people expressed their frustration that nowhere is safe to them anymore

✋🏼Discussions were had about how do we stop glorifying fights and violence and dramatic change is needed

❗️Students mentioned the need for exercise, more resources, needing mental health help, making better choices before saying mean things, bullying, or fighting because they see the trajectory of where this leads too

❓How can we empower our young people better and empower their ideas for a safer and better community? How can we support prevention?

🎉 Great job to Tremont 6th graders sharing their story and photograph relating to social justice for our last YDJ: Youth Discussing Justice session for the school year!

☮️ Stories shared ranged from the value of connecting, family and friendship to police reform to healthy foods in schools to envioronment and animals to video games and football.

🏆 Students won prizes including t-shirts made from .universe!

💪🏽Courage, leadership and collective decision making and the power of voting were displayed in choosing the winners.
