160,000+ Ohioans have lost Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage over the past year. This, coupled with the 356,000 additional Ohioans who could soon lose Medicaid coverage due to federal changes taking effect, make medical respite more necessary than ever before. Crain’s Cleveland Business recently published an opinion piece written by Joseph & Mary's Home Executive Director Anna Stormer. The Op-Ed is titled “Cleveland must be brave enough to care." You can learn more about the Op-Ed by visiting jmhome.org/crainsopedannastormer.

Anna was inspired to write the Op-Ed after reflecting on the number of Ohioans – more than 160,000 – who have lost Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage over the past year. This is in addition to the 356,000 additional Ohioans who could soon lose Medicaid coverage due to federal changes taking effect.

As Anna says in her Op-Ed, “For our neighbors experiencing homelessness, losing health coverage is not simply a data point. It is often a matter of life and death. Even a brief interruption in care can have devastating consequences for someone already living without stable housing."

For 175 years, the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine have lived a powerful calling: To bring healing, hope and compassionate care to all, especially those most in need. The Sisters concluded the celebration of 175 years of ministry in the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland at a Mass and reception Sept. 12 at St. Albert the Great Parish in North Royalton. Congratulations Sr. Judith Ann Karam for being honored with the Key to Cuyahoga County by County Executive Chris Ronayne during the 2026 State of the County address. The recognition was based on her decades of strengthening Cuyahoga County through her leadership with the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and the Health System. We're extremely excited to be part of the Glick Recovery Campus with the Rosary Hall Withdrawal Management Unit, continuing a long legacy of addiction medicine work. This new modern-day facility has a shared commitment to expanding access to compassionate, coordinated care for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use crises.

We were honored to welcome State Representative Sean Brennan to the Health System office last week. Brennan for Ohio visited to present a state commendation recognizing the historic 175th Anniversary of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, which was accepted by Sr. Judith Ann Karam, CSA, and Sr. Jane Lab, CSA. President & CEO Michael Goar then provided an overview of the Health System and all that's happening at the St. Vincent Charity Health and Healing Hub. Sr. Judith Ann provided an overview of the soon-to-open Sister Ignatia Gavin, CSA, Center for Addiction Medicine before taking Rep. Brennan to tour the under-construction center on the 2nd floor of the Health System Building. St. Vincent Charity Rosary Hall Executive Director Ben Silver led the tour. Thank you Rep. Brennan for honoring this historic anniversary and for your partnership in the community.

The 175th anniversary Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine celebration continues throughout 2026. Ohio State Representative Bill Roemer recently visited Mt. Augustine to present the Sisters with a special commendation recognizing the 175th Anniversary.
