Summer Camp Spots Still Available!

Looking for a fun, active, and affordable summer experience for your child? Near West Recreation still has limited spots available in our summer camps at City Life Center!

Week 1 (July 20 - 24): Soccer Camp

Week 2: (July 27-31): Survivor Sports Camp

Week 3 (August 3 -7): Olympic Sports Camp

Location:City Life Center
Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Before and after care available for addtional cost
Ages: Grades 1–6. Leadership opportunities available for Grades 7–8

Campers will enjoy a variety of sports, games, team-building activities, and opportunities to make new friends in a safe and welcoming environment. Whether your child is new to sports or already loves being active, there is something for everyone!

What a great night for soccer in Cleveland!

This past Friday, Near West Recreation had two teams compete in Kids Kickout U14 4v4 Tournament at . Our players represented NWR with great effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork while enjoying a fun evening of competition.

A special thank you to Coach Mark and Coach Jerry for leading our two teams and helping provide this opportunity for our players. We appreciate all of the time and energy you invest in our youth.

We would also like to thank Noah and the Cleveland Soccer Foundation for organizing a fantastic event and hosting the FIFA World Cup Opening Night Watch Party. It was great to see so many young athletes and families come together to celebrate the beautiful game.

Learn to Play Tennis This Summer!

Looking for a fun and affordable way to keep your child active this summer? Join Near West Recreation's Learn to Play Tennis program for beginners ages 7–12!

📅 Wednesdays, July 8 – August 5
📍 Jefferson Park
⏰ Choose from two session times:
• 6:00–6:55 PM
• 7:05–8:00 PM

Players will learn the fundamentals of tennis through fun drills, games, and skill-building activities in a supportive environment.

✅ All equipment provided
✅ Just $40 for the full program
✅ Financial assistance available for eligible families

Weather make-up dates are scheduled for August 6, 12, and 13 if needed.

12u Softball Players Needed!

A few spots have opened up in our 12U Girls Softball League due to injuries and summer schedule changes.

We are looking for girls ages 9–12 (recently turned 13 is okay) who want to play this summer. Games are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 PM on Cleveland's Near West Side.

Registration includes a team shirt, hat, and pants. Players only need a water bottle, athletic shoes (cleats optional), and a glove. Need a glove? We have a few available to borrow.

Please note: the registration form says "Waitlist," but spots are currently available.

⚾️ PLAY BALL! ⚾️

Today is Opening Day for Near West Recreation Baseball & Softball!

After weeks of practices, we’re excited to kick off the season with our Tee-Ball, Coach Pitch, and 12U Baseball teams taking the field for their first games. Over the next two months, more than 300 young athletes on 26 teams will compete, learn, and create memories across Cleveland’s Near West Side.

A huge thank you to our volunteer coaches, families, sponsors, officials, and community partners who make this season possible. Your support gives local kids the opportunity to play, grow, and have fun.

Good luck to all of our players today! Remember: work hard, be a great teammate, and most importantly—have fun!

Summer programs give kids a chance to stay active, build friendships, learn new skills, and have fun in a safe environment all summer long.

Near West Recreation is excited for another great summer of programming! JumpStart Sport Summer Camp registration is now open and spots are filling quickly. We’ll also be sharing information soon on our upcoming Learn to Play Tennis and Squash series (July/August series).

Near West Recreation is looking for more officials (paid position) for our upcoming 12U Baseball and 12U Softball seasons!

We are especially in need of individuals with baseball or softball experience to help umpire games this summer.

Game Schedule:
⚾ 12U Baseball – Mostly Saturdays
🥎 12U Softball – Tuesday & Thursday evenings

We are also open to training responsible teens and younger officials interested in gaining experience around the game.

The past few weeks have been a great stretch for our Near West Recreation track athletes!

Our athletes have competed in an inter-squad meet along with two dual meets, continuing to learn, grow, and challenge themselves each week. We’re proud of the effort, sportsmanship, and confidence our athletes are showing both on and off the track.

A big thank you to Lakewood Youth Track for hosting us and to Urban Community School - Cleveland, Ohiofor traveling to compete with us. We appreciate the partnerships and opportunities for our kids to race, improve, and have fun together!

A huge thank you to Coach Bash for leading our pitching clinics over the past two Fridays and sharing his knowledge with our athletes and coaches!

It was awesome to see many of our baseball players eager to learn and improve while working through pitching fundamentals and progression drills together. We will be providing the drill list along with some videos to all of our older baseball families and coaches.

We appreciate Coach Bash taking the time to invest in our players and the Near West Recreation community. Thank you CLE Inspires for the connection!
