Our Annual George Washington's Birthday Luncheon was held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Shaker Heights Country Club. Almost 100 SAR members, DAR members, and guests from other lineage groups, the military, and veterans organizations celebrated the event.

Our Archibald Willard Color Guard once again led the Gates Mills Fourth of July Parade. This annual event for us is always a great time. Bringing in the colors this year were Zackary Hoon, Galen Swab, Matthew Smith, and Mark Tyler.

Memorial Day 2025 3 of 3

Our Archibald Willard Color Guard presented the colors to a sellout crowd at the Cleveland Guardians Memorial Day 2025 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This coincided with our annual WRSSAR/Guardians event. The only thing better would have been a Guardians victory.

Memorial Day 2025 1 of 3.

Past-president Zackary Hoon and his wife Jayne were joined by member Herb Wagers; his wife, Catalina; and past-president Will Ross on Friday, May 23, 2025 to place flags on 50 veterans graves in Section 5C of Lake View Cemetery in commemoration of Memorial Day. One of those veterans we honored was Carl B. Stokes, first black mayor of a major US city. This is the third time we have volunteered to help mark the over 9,000 veterans buried in Lake View Cemetery. We welcome you to join us next year.

The Western Reserve Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (WRSSAR) will restart its monthly happy hours (First Thursday’s) for members, families and friends on Thursday, April 4th. Join us at Hail Mary’s located at 27828 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, Ohio, 44145 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Not only is this a good way for members to share and learn more about the American Revolutionary War and their patriot ancestors it’s also a good opportunity for prospective members to find out more about the organization.

Each month between April through September, a WRSSAR member will host this event at an location of their choice throughout greater Cleveland. First Vice President, Matthew Smith and his wife
Catherine will kick off the year by hosting April’s First Thursday.
