You put a lot of planning into your day on the water — packing the snacks, sunscreen, towels, and toys. Make sure safety is part of that plan, too.

Life jackets save lives, and the best time to wear one is before you even step onto the dock. Kids under 10 are required to wear a properly fitted life jacket while boating, but this message is for adults too. When the whole family wears one, everyone is safer.

Safety starts at the dock. Wear your life jacket and help make sure your day on the water ends with good memories.

Minnesota DNR's new electronic licensing system launches June 9! 📆

The DNR is rolling out a modern licensing system replacement that is built for today's customers and technology. Phase one of the launch in June will include the hunting and fishing modules. 🤳

The new system offers more flexibility than ever — three ways to buy a license (mobile app, online, or in-person from a license agent) and three ways to carry it (paper, PDF, or stored in the app). 📱

As part of this transition, hunting and fishing licenses will be temporarily unavailable for purchase between June 2 - 8 as we switch over to the new system. During that time, people may fish without a license in Minnesota. All regulations for the season and bag limits will remain in effect. On June 9, fishing licenses will again be required and you will be able to purchase them through the new system. 🎣

Turkey hunters need to register their harvest before end of day (11:59 pm) June 1. They will be unable to register their harvest during the transition/cutover period. 🦃

For now, nothing changes for those needing to register or title recreational vehicles and watercraft. That module of the new system will launch at a later date. 🚤

Did you know that aquatic plants growing in public water are state property? Learn what you can and cannot do with them in the link below.

Under Minnesota law, aquatic plants growing in public waters are the property of the state. Because of their value to the lake ecosystem, they may not be destroyed or transplanted unless authorized by the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources as stipulated in the Aquatic Plant Management Rules. A "public water" is generally any body of water 2.5 acres or larger within an incorporated city limit, or 10 acres or larger in rural areas. If you are unsure whether a particular lake is public, please contact your local Aquatic Plant Management Permitting Staff (PDF) .
