Aspen and Bailey. Friends forever.

Aspen is a pittie mix who was rescued from GA, her mom was a stray. Thankful for the rescue who saved her and gave her a chance. She’s the sweetest and craziest dinosaur ever.

Bailey is a Golden Retriever who is a service dog for my daughter.

These two are the best of friends.

No, really, it’s just so muddy.

Trying this trend with Pedro. The only way he would cooperate is with treats. 😂

I grew up playing with my friends in the neighborhood and watching and reading Goosebumps and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Childhood was magical.

Introduction number one: Pedro!

I figured we would share what animals we have currently! Photos from when we got him a few months ago - current.

This is our horse, Pedro. He is an 8 (?) year old OTTB. He has a somewhat sad history: when he was getting castrated (NOT by licensed vet), he wouldn’t stop bleeding. They tried to throw chemicals on it to get it to stop, but after it wouldn’t, he was taken to an actual vet and basically just left there. He was treated for the bleeding and the burns he sustained on his legs. He was eventually adopted by one of the vet techs.

She was selling him just to do lack of time for him, and sadly he was getting bullied by the other horses she had so he was not able to graze enough, and was underweight. To top it off, he had a bad accident getting in the trailer to come to us (he said no thanks and tried to escape the trailer which did not end well).

So when he pulled up (after going to the vet to get stitched up) he was in rough shape. He had sutures in his forehead from slicing it open and multiple wounds on his legs and body.

Fast forward: The vet took out the sutures and said his legs are healing nicely, we just have one small open area that’s still in the healing phase. He has gained a decent amount of weight (still gaining) and eats all by himself to his heart’s content (within reason 😆). He gets treats and has access to the chain link backyard as a temporary solution until his almost acre fence comes in December. He loves to run, roll in sand, and occasionally try to bite you if he isn’t fed his pellets by 6AM 🙃. He does pretty well being ridden but will occasionally just decide he doesn’t want, runs to my neighboring lot, and just stands there. Then comes back with me and decides it’s okay. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We love you, Pedro!

Just getting Pedro some exercise in between breaks of rain. He gets a little sassy being so cooped up with all this rain, understandably.

Also this is the field where the agricultural fence will go! He will have almost an acre of space to run. :)

He’s really doing well, putting on a decent amount of weight, and healing his cuts from the trailer debacle.

Recent photo dump.

Pedro (horse) is doing well, he’s gaining weight nicely! The barn was reorganized and will be again soon to make room for the heated cat houses for Bear and Franco (barn cats). Still trying to figure out what to do with all the horse p**p and shavings from the barn, aka where the best spot is on the property for them to break down over time so we can use it as fertilizer. Currently it is near the barn but we need to work on better placement.

We had an incident with our dog Maven where she killed all the first round of chickens. We have since acquired new chicks and moved them into a safe area that Maven cannot access. It was very sad, but also a learning experience.

We’ve been enjoying beautiful fall days and looking forward to the agricultural fence coming soon to the back of the property for Pedro!

There is a chicken coop addition also coming in the next week to house all our chickens once they move outside in the next few months.

Still working on many updates needed before we can begin animal intake / shelter work. It will happen, but we need to make sure all the structural work is completed and everything is in good shape before we take in any animals. Slow process, but it’s coming.

Also update on mom Scarlet!

Scarlet got her spay surgery and everything went well (yay!). The bad news is she has a condition called feline oral resorptive lesions, which they noticed under anesthesia. This means she will need to have a few teeth pulled as they have such bad erosion that she is at high risk for infection and is probably feeling some pain. She is scheduled to get them removed in December.

She will need regular follow up with a vet (yearly) to ensure her teeth remain in adequate shape. But please don’t let that deter you, she’s an absolutely amazing cat, laid back, and ready to find her best friend. 🐾❤️
