Northeast Ohio Worker Center

Northeast Ohio Worker Center The mission of the Northeast Ohio Worker Center is to build power with working people.

The Northeast Worker Center is an organization built by workers, for workers, to organize and fight back against the forces that have workers feeling isolated, overworked, underpaid, and exploited. Worker centers have emerged across the country as worker-led organizations which provide a space for workers to educate themselves on their rights at work, organize their workplaces, and receive legal a

nd other support services from allied individuals and organizations working in solidarity with the center. In addition, the fundamental goal of a worker center is to transform the economy to better serve workers and their communities, so centers also serve as a vehicle for grassroots advocacy and organizing for political change on both the local, state, and national level.

We can't wait to see you next Tuesday for our Union Coop Solidarity Circle! We are throwing the event in partnership with Cleveland Owns, IRTF - The InterReligious Task Force on Central America, and all of the fine folks who host the Coop Circles event series!

Our pal, Craig, from Cleveland Owns says it best:

When I see the challenges facing us today - rising authoritarianism and ecological crises - I think it's clear that the folks who got us into this mess can't get us out of it. It's working people like you and I who are going to be the ones who build and fight our way to a better tomorrow. Labor unions and cooperatives are two powerful ways for working people to do this! And not just moving in parallel, unions and cooperatives are two parts of a bigger labor movement and they can work together down to the shopfloor.

Our guests for this event have been living this!

Rob Witherell with the United Steelworkers has been a champion for the union co-op movement for decades. Inspired by the success of Mongradon, the Steelworkers helped to found Co-op Cincy - a union co-op incubator

Flequer Vera, is one of the founders of Co-op Cincy and Sustainergy - a unionized worker cooperative that works in energy efficiency and solar installation - and is Sustainergy's CEO

Newer to the movement, our friends at Rose Electric - Iris, Victoria, and Camryn - are union electricians who founded Rose Electric, a new union cooperative!

We will be at Forest City, Tuesday, May 26th, at 7PM!

What do labor unions and cooperatives have in common? They are two ways working people can build stronger communities and fight for what they need.

On May 26, our union will be participating in a Co-Op Circle in Cleveland, Ohio, to talk about how these two formations can work together, why co-ops need labor unions, and more. If you are in the area, consider joining us in person.

Today we went to the statehouse with the Time to Care Coalition to celebrate Paid Family Leave being introduced for ohio 🎉

You shouldn’t have to choose between caring for a loved one or yourself and keeping your job. This is why we support SB 396, a comprehensive Paid Family Leave bill. If passed, this bill would give Ohioans 14 weeks of paid time off to care for a new child, a loved one or themselves.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!!!

Do you know that the city of Cleveland recently passed a pay transparency law? It says that employers in the City of Cleveland must include salary ranges on all job postings and cannot ask about salary history in interviews.

Want to have a Fair Pay Ambassador come speak at your next community event or meeting about the law? Let us know!!
