Dear Friends,
It's hard to believe spring has finally arrived, although the snow outside my window would beg to differ!
I write with news of our NEW VIRTUAL TEACHER'S FORUM option. I have had quite a few requests for a virtual option for the MCHI Teacher's Forum on August 12-13 and we are now able to offer that by request. Please fill out the regular registration form online, but email Juan Riveros at [email protected] and we can give you more info on the virtual option pricing and arrangements. The registration deadline for both our In-Person and Virtual Teacher's Forum is JUNE 1st.
Also, just gentle reminder that our APRIL 1st MCHI student application deadline is fast approaching. If you or one of your students is interested in applying but need a few extra days to get your application materials in order, please email Juan Riveros at [email protected] and I am sure we can accommodate.
Situated on the beautiful grounds of The Monteux School in Hancock, Maine (on Frenchman’s Bay, approximately thirty minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park), the campus offers newly-built housing facilities, a concert hall, and practice spaces onsite.
The Maine Coast Harp Institute Student Program (August 3-13), is inspired by the legendary Summer Harp Colony in Camden, Maine. Multiple private lessons with me form the framework of the program, in addition to group classes on such topics as Practice Techniques, Performance Strategies, Body Care and Preventing Injury, Audition Preparation, Orchestral Excerpt Study, Collaborative Techniques, and more. Openings are limited so that each student receives ample private lesson time. The target age range is 14-24, but students outside of that age group are welcome to apply. The application video need not be intense, but is just a way for me to meet the applicant and hear a short musical sample, along with any verbally expressed goals and background information the student wishes to share.
Regular Application Deadline: April 1
The Maine Coast Harp Institute Teacher’s Forum will take place on August 12-13, and offers the opportunity for teachers to gather, share challenges, troubleshoot solutions, laugh, commiserate, and feel a sense of community in the life-long mission of teaching. The Teacher’s Forum will officially start with the closing evening concert of the student session and will be followed by a full day of discussion and activities for teachers, culminating with a seafood feast. Discussion topics will be strongly guided by the participant survey on the registration form. Teachers may arrive as early as Wednesday, August 10, and observe MCHI classes as well as their own student’s final private lesson, if applicable. Limited onsite housing for teachers is available as capacity permits. If preferred, local accommodation recommendations are provided on the MCHI website.
Please share this post with any students or teachers that you feel might be interested in The Maine Coast Harp Institute, and I hope to connect with some of you this summer!
