The Capitol Theatre is launching an exciting new initiative designed to help nonprofit organizations engage their communities through film-centered events, conversations, and cultural programming. We invite you to join us for an upcoming information and Q&A session to learn more about this unique opportunity. Through support from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation and a Community Development Corporation Leadership Program (CDCLP) grant from the foundation, the Capitol Theatre is introducing a limited pilot funding opportunity to help nonprofit organizations bring mission-driven programming to one of Cleveland's most historic cultural venues. The same grant also helped fund the Capitol's newly upgraded 4K projection system, creating new opportunities for high-quality community programming. It's always exciting to share progress, and even more exciting to share it with the people helping make it possible! Last week, we were thrilled to welcome Ward 11 Councilwoman Nikki Hudson for a tour of Karam Senior Living and the future Walz Branch of the Cleveland Public Library. Seeing the project take shape is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together around a shared goal. Once complete, Karam Senior Living will provide 51 affordable homes for older adults, connected to a vibrant new library branch that will serve residents of all ages. Together, these investments will create opportunities for connection, learning, and stability while strengthening the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood for years to come. We're incredibly grateful for the support of Councilmember Hudson, Cleveland City Council, the City of Cleveland, and Cuyahoga County. Their partnership and commitment to affordable housing and neighborhood development have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. We're also proud to be working alongside Cleveland Public Library on a project that will have a lasting impact on our community. Thank you to everyone who has helped move this project forward. We can't wait to share more progress as construction continues!

The Fall 2026 Cudell Edgewater Neighborhood Improvement fund is open!

The Neighborhood Improvement Fund provides funding supports resident-led and community-based projects that create positive impacts in the Cudell and Edgewater neighborhoods. Over the past two grant cycles, Northwest Neighborhoods have awarded more than $60,000 to 18 projects across Cudell and Edgewater, including community events, public art, gardens, youth programs, civic engagement efforts, beautification projects, and other community-building activities.

The Karam Senior Living portion of the Karam/Walz project is now 25% complete! This morning, Northwest Neighborhoods Executive Director Bridget Kent Márquez joined project partners for a tour of the construction site to mark this important milestone and celebrate the progress being made. Once complete, Karam Senior Living will provide 51 affordable apartments for seniors, helping residents remain connected to the community they call home. Integrated with the new Walz Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, the development will bring together affordable housing, lifelong learning, and community connection in one transformative project.

Reaching 25% completion is a testament to the dedication of the many partners, funders, and supporters who have helped move this vision forward. The progress visible on site today reflects years of planning, collaboration, and investment in the future of our community.

While there is still work ahead, each stage of construction brings us closer to welcoming residents and creating a lasting resource for Cleveland's older adults.

Build your confidence and learn skills to tackle home repairs! Join Northwest Neighborhoods for a free Do It Yourself (DIY) Home Repair Workshop on Friday, August 14 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at Story Church (9900 Madison Ave.). Whether you are a first-time DIYer or an experienced homeowner looking to learn new skills, this workshop will provide practical tips and hands-on learning opportunities from local experts, including People’s Plumbing, Smith Brothers Construction, and Each One Teach One. The workshop will also include an all-ages tool safety demonstration led by local expert Logan Wood, plus a fun woodworking activity for kids. Come learn new skills, connect with neighbors, and leave feeling more prepared to take on your next home project!

This is a time to connect with neighbors, vote for our Board of Directors, and celebrate the work we accomplished last year.
