April is Alcohol Awareness Month, and stories like Angela’s are why it matters.
After the loss of her grandmother, Angela’s life began to spiral. What started as grief turned into years of struggling with alcohol, leading to multiple car crashes and, in 2005, a serious accident that left her in the ICU for a week.
Even then, she wasn’t ready. Her family wanted her to get sober, but she wasn’t ready to make that change yet.
On 9/29/25, that changed.
Today, Angela is celebrating her longest period of sobriety since her struggles began in 2001. During her time at Hitchcock Center for Women, she fully committed to her recovery, completing both residential treatment and outpatient care. She found connection and support in staff who truly understood her journey, especially those with lived experience.
Now, Angela is focused on her future. She is currently enrolled in the Women in Transition program at Cuyahoga Community College and hopes to pursue a career in the recovery field so she can give back and help others.
Her motivation is clear; she wants to be present for her son and her family.
Looking ahead, she hopes to become a sponsor and continue building her community in recovery.
Her advice:
“Listen. Don’t overthink it. The miracle will happen if you let it.”
If you or someone you love is struggling with alcohol, you are not alone. Recovery is possible, and help is here.
