Asé Theatre Project explores storytelling and creation with our cousins in the Redlines.

Each season we gather in person. Anchored in one of the decks suits, we bring to life the dreams of Reneé and Lil Bit as they are telling us to remember the legacy of power we have.

Register on eventbrite, a script for the evening will be emailed to you and explicit instructions and links to prepare for the immersion into scene creation.

We are making ceremony Sunday July 19 11:30-12:30 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

We will be sharing our 🦋 Ceremony of Fly 🦋as a community activation.

This ceremony is about reconnecting to oneself through breath.
Honoring those who made sacrifices for us to have room to feel joy.
Sacrifices for us to feel free.

And in the state of our world, a moment to breathe and feel fly and light is necessary.

Cousin, we know it’s a lot going on, that’s why we need our rituals of resistance. Take the time to celebrate our breath and the opportunities that comes with that breath.

This ceremony asks you to release your fears and hold on to your Asé!

This is a ceremony where we uplift one another. There is so much happening in our world — and THE world — and this is a moment to give breath for all we have been carrying, let it roll off the hips, plant into the ground beneath our stomping feet, and declare our Asé in the clap of our hands and the rise of our voices.

Asé Theatre Project mission is rooted in healing work. Work revolving around restoring our rituals of resistance tied to our ancestry and our culture. The hand games, the improv, the joy, the Fly.

With so much change and loss, we must remember we are the descendants of those who gathered, those who held each other up, those who wanted more and went for it. We are fly.

Sinners received the most Oscar nods in history.

We are in a renaissance and young people learning the value in rehearsal, in returning to an idea, getting support in bringing it to life. That is performance art. Our art is protest, our art demands a form of remembrance.

This scene embodies the legacy of griots and music in our culture.

Enjoy this glimpse into how we intend to end the year with their original works. We look back to look ahead.

Asé Theatre Project hosts 8 week residencies that culminates with a presentation. We collaborate with staff and administrators to build students confidence and literacy skills.

Sunday, our students from Superior School for the Performing Arts competed in the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Contest — and 4 placed.

In April, we head to Columbus for the state competition.

But the real win?

Students boldly sharing their vision for justice.
Students standing tall in their truth.
Students practicing leadership through speech and storytelling.

This is why we coach.
This is why we rehearse.
This is why we believe in the power of voice.

On Clevelands soil the warfare has always been more than the surface.

The rules we were taught? Survival strategies. To move forward, we remember what protected us—the folktales, the spiritual technologies, the cards that carry ancestral wisdom and protection.
