Sinners received the most Oscar nods in history.

We are in a renaissance and young people learning the value in rehearsal, in returning to an idea, getting support in bringing it to life. That is performance art. Our art is protest, our art demands a form of remembrance.

This scene embodies the legacy of griots and music in our culture.

Enjoy this glimpse into how we intend to end the year with their original works. We look back to look ahead.

Asé Theatre Project hosts 8 week residencies that culminates with a presentation. We collaborate with staff and administrators to build students confidence and literacy skills.

Books are open for our 2026-2027 school year!

Multiple drafts.
Tears.
Writer’s block.
Laughing through the hard parts.
Rewriting one sentence ten times.

Sunday, our students from Superior School for the Performing Arts competed in the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Contest — and 4 placed.

In April, we head to Columbus for the state competition.

But the real win?

Students boldly sharing their vision for justice.
Students standing tall in their truth.
Students practicing leadership through speech and storytelling.

This is why we coach.
This is why we rehearse.
This is why we believe in the power of voice.

On Clevelands soil the warfare has always been more than the surface.

The rules we were taught? Survival strategies. To move forward, we remember what protected us—the folktales, the spiritual technologies, the cards that carry ancestral wisdom and protection.

Do you know them?
Do you know how to use them?

Save the date: March 2026

Cousins we will gather at our Asé session to continue to build our own spiritual technology through a deck that guides ancestral lore and healing.

Be safe after the streetlights cousins. Happy New Year.

I want a world where we freely do the butterfly
Where generations remember childhood joy together
Where we can be our full self unapologetically
A world that actively preserves the culture
I want a world that holds the grief and reminds us of all the things that can exist at once
A world where we know loneliness is only an illusion.

Asé Theatre Project is the space for world building, a world that restores community connections, family histories and positive self image. We are preserving the culture and training Griots.

Cousins, comment a 🌀 to be added to our close friends and get information on Asé Sessions virtual and in person that will build our 2026 run in a new space expanding the world.

Let’s see how inclusive and accessible we can make community theatre and experiences.

Oh the things we can create when giving space to dream.

Entering a restful season while working with East Cleveland City Schools District. Grateful for the work to continue to grow, to spread and to connect.

In my grandmothers apartment in Delaney Village after we moved from the Greens, her hallway was a runway.

The hallway carried our pictures, art she said she saw us in, she played the music loud and made us walk up and down the hallway as a runway. I felt the most confident here, clearly you see me in my own world in the back. I’m grateful my family always supported us being individuals, we are the best hype people and we ride at dawn for those we care for.

This is where I learned how fly I am.

This hall is reimagined in Portals of Knowing. It is the first threshold to cross before entering the heart of the home. Come remember your fly with us.

There is limited capacity for the experience so book your tickets now to be in the room when a new imagining happens.

This work evolves so there are new elements this time and more opportunities to hear your stories.

Cousins,
There has been so much happening.
We been managing so much — learning and unlearning, upholding and releasing. Folks been trying us, and we’ve been doing the work to rest, to ease, and to fly again.

And in the midst of it all, it’s good to check in, to connect, and to uplift.

I heard you. I felt you. I saw you.

Now, we’re coming together again — to remember our fly, to celebrate our stories, and to move together through a living archive of who we are.

I invite you to experience Asé Theatre Project’s immersive journey, Portals of Knowing — where memory, movement, and rhythm meet.

This is interactive — so come ready to play, to sing, to dance, and to be seen. Dress fly, dress comfortable, and come as your whole self.

Tonight at Asé Session ✨
We are continuing our series of deep dives — each session building on the last.
Come dressed comfortably. We begin with refreshments and gathering in a circle, then ease into light movement and soundscape exploration around tonight’s theme: CLEANSING.
Together, we will create a “make + take” mixed media page filled with wisdom about cleansing — what we release, what we carry, and what we preserve. Then, we’ll share our pages through sound and story, weaving a living archive together.
This is more than art-making — it’s a practice in genealogy, a moment to remember the wisdom passed to us and offer something forward. Bring your open heart and curiosity — let’s preserve our culture, together. 🖤✨

Cultural memory is resistance.
We are a beautiful people.
Our joy cannot be stolen.
📸

Our ancestors wanted more for us — more rest, more joy, more freedom. And baby, we are holding on tight. They have tried to rewrite who we are, tried to portray us as less than — but we know the truth.

We are not fools.
We are the dream and the fight.
We are the rhythm they cannot stop.

On the 3rd Tuesday of every month, we gather to build family archives — a legacy of reminders for ourselves and the generations to come.

Tues Sept 16th we are at Dunham Tavern 6-8p.
Come through. Add your story. Be part of this living inheritance and participate in the resistance of cultural memory.
