If we must die, let it not be like hogs

While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,

“If We Must Die” — Claude McKay (1919). Written in response to mob attacks against African-American communities, this poem is a beautiful call for courage, not hope, in the face of despair.

Sustained civil disobedience is the only way to force power to hear and acknowledge our demands. Even then, we might need to take even more forcing action to create necessary change (still nonviolent). The tragedy of the climate crisis is that the problem was largely created by the powerful and wealthy, yet we rely on them to fix the situation. The opportunity of the climate crisis is in finding ways to make change ourselves and reclaim agency in building our lives and communities.

Are you concerned about climate change and how it will impact you? Your family? Friends? The truth is that we are currently on course for more than 2 degrees of warming which will impact all of us, be it directly (floods, droughts, water shortages, extreme weather events) or indirectly (crop failures leading to food shortages and inflation, refugee crises). We have the duty to fight for our futures and the futures of those we love. Join the Rebellion.
