We celebrate the amazing talents and accomplishments of five high school junior girls across Middle Tennessee today at the Class of 2027 Distinguished Young Women of Music City and Middle Tennessee At Large program.

Over the last four weeks, we have worked with these girls on interview and public speaking skills, how to be mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy, and what is means to Be Your Best Self. Today they will all be evaluated on Scholastics, Interview, Fitness, Talent and Self Expression with an opportunity to advance to our State program in July.

We held our first at large program for Distinguished Young Women of Tennessee today at Cleveland High School theater. What amazingly talented, smart and respectful group of young ladies. Also, shout out to our dedicated volunteers who sacrificed their Saturday with their families to give back to this program. Congratulations to the ladies of the East TN at large program for the DYW TN Class of 2027. See you at state!!!

Hanna just came back from her mission trip in Ethiopia!

She joined a Korean church for the “make your mark” program and spent 10 days at Adis Ababa where they prepared storytelling, prayers, fun games, sticker decorating and drawing, music, and outdoor events. Her main job was to play music, translate the story between my Korean pastor and a local church member (English translation), and lead the fun session with the kids!

Wow, what a way to be impactful and make a difference! 🤩

The spirit award is the only award voted on by participants rather than scored and evaluated by the judges. It is often the most valued award given on the stage and is the one has-beens speak about the most when reminiscing about the program. The spirit award winner embodies what it means to be a Distinguished Young Woman. They are often the first girls to reach back out to see how they can give back to the program after they have finished their year representing their community. We often see them giving back at the local and state level without having to solicit their times and talents.

This award is incredibly dear for TN as it is named for James A. Dunn, Traci’s father, who was a servant at heart through and through. He would drop anything to take care of anyone who needed anything. He often could be found giving back to his church and neighbors and made sure that his community felt supported, encouraged, and uplifted.

Mia Sewell of McMinn County was named the Class of 2025 James A. Dunn Spirit Award recipient. Congratulations, Mia! 🥳
