Working with local residents on their design and maintenance, Antwerp is piloting tuinstraten (“garden streets”) in five districts across the city.

They improve resiliency (to flooding and heat), liveability and sociability—making these spaces calmer, greener and more beautiful.

I know it's a bit of a longer watch, but please do try and find 20 minutes to check out this video on how we ended up in such a housing crisis. People love to complain about property taxes which is hugely caused by an imbalance of home ownership vs population in an area but oppose densification.

Although early in the process, Playhouse Square Foundation is leading an effort in Downtown Cleveland that could result in the closure of Huron Road to vehicles. The goal is to effectively expand US Bank Plaza and create a venue for a street market of pop-up vendors and artists. The potential closure to cars and trucks could affect a short stretch of Huron that’s closest to Euclid Avenue.

“We are having some conversations with DCI (Downtown Cleveland Inc.), LAND Studio, the city and other stakeholders to explore possibilities for enlivening the district but nothing has been solidified at this time,” says Cindi Szymanski, communications director at Playhouse Square.

Even cars can benefit from a strong bicycle plan. As many say: the best car plan is a bicycle plan.

By stimulating car drivers to switch to other modalities, such as the bike, more space on the road is opened up, which can be used by essential traffic.
