♻️☀️🎄 A busy day of creativity at The Friendship Place!

Today we celebrated National Upcycling Day by creating sensory bottles using recycled materials, showing how everyday items can be transformed into something fun and meaningful. We also made sunshine jars for Aktion Club to help spread kindness and positivity throughout our community, and got a head start on our Christmas in July fundraiser by designing beautiful paint pour ornaments.

From crafting with a purpose to giving back and preparing for upcoming events, our participants spent the day building creativity, fine motor skills, and teamwork while having fun together!

🏅🌎 International Olympic Day at TFP! 🌎🏅

Today we celebrated International Olympic Day by learning about the history of the Olympic Games and the incredible impact of the Special Olympics, which promotes inclusion, determination, and opportunities for athletes of all abilities. We discovered how Olympic Day is celebrated each year on June 23 to honor the founding of the International Olympic Committee and the values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

Our participants got creative by designing their own Olympic-themed posters, sharing what sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance mean to them. We then got moving with an energetic Zumba class led by Miss Jenny, putting the Olympic spirit into action through fitness and fun!

To wrap up our day, we enjoyed a trip to the movies to see Toy Story 5, making for an exciting afternoon filled with laughter and adventure. 🎬✨

🇫🇷🍫 Happy National Chocolate Éclair Day from The Friendship Place! Today we took a trip to France without leaving Clermont by learning about French culture and creating our own French flags. We then celebrated the day by making delicious “éclairs” using pound cake and chocolate. In the afternoon, participants got creative designing personalized cards with the Cricut. A sweet day full of learning, creativity, and fun! ❤️🤍💙

🥤❤️💚🖤 Today at The Friendship Place, participants kicked off the day by making delicious milkshakes and practicing following recipes while making choices about their ingredients. We then learned about the history and significance of Juneteenth, discussing freedom, resilience, and the importance of remembering our nation’s history. Participants created their own Juneteenth Freedom Flags to celebrate the holiday and express their creativity.

This afternoon, Book Club began our newest adventure with Winterhouse! Participants read the first chapters together and discussed the main plot points, characters, and themes introduced in the story. We are excited to continue the mystery and see where the story takes us next!

Today at The Friendship Place, participants enjoyed a fun and active day together! 🤟 We started with ASL Club, where we reviewed finger spelling and practiced signing skills. Next, everyone participated in Chair Yoga, focusing on movement, flexibility, and relaxation. Afterward, we stayed active with time in the gym, working on fitness goals and healthy habits.

The highlight of the afternoon was a special visit from therapy dog Maggie and her owner, Lorraine. Participants loved spending time with Maggie, enjoying her calming presence, practicing social skills, and sharing plenty of smiles and affection.

Thank you to Lorraine and Maggie for brightening our day! 🐾💙

🎄✨ Getting ready for Christmas in July at The Friendship Place! ✨🎄

Today was packed with creativity and fun as our participants made handmade candles for our upcoming Christmas in July sale. 🕯️🎁 We also put our knowledge to the test with a lively trivia competition using whiteboards, lots of teamwork, and plenty of laughs!

To top off the day, we were excited to welcome Mike Goodge for a special art class where participants created beautiful dot painting projects featuring colorful kangaroos and lizards. 🦘🦎🎨

A big thank you to Mike for sharing his talent and helping our participants explore a new artistic style. We can’t wait to show off all of the amazing items our participants have been creating for Christmas in July!

Happy Sea Turtle Day from The Friendship Place! 🐢🌊

Today we learned all about sea turtles and the important role they play in our oceans. Participants enjoyed a fun educational class, showed off their talents during karaoke, and then cooled off with a trip to Twistee Treat to beat the Florida heat! 🍦🎤☀️

It was a perfect day filled with learning, laughter, music, and sweet treats!

😊🍕 National Smile Power Day at The Friendship Place! 🌼🎄

Today was all about spreading smiles! Participants celebrated by creating delicious happy face pizza bagels, designing beautiful Happiness Flower Gardens, and getting into the Christmas spirit early by crafting festive room sprays for our upcoming Christmas in July event.

From creativity and self-expression to teamwork and lots of laughter, it was a day filled with positivity, friendship, and plenty of smiles. We can’t wait to share our handmade creations with the community next month! 🎄✨

🍪📚 A sweet day at The Friendship Place! 📚🍪

Today we celebrated National Peanut Butter Cookie Day by baking delicious peanut butter cookies and enjoying the tasty results together!

Afterward, participants got creative making “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” themed crafts inspired by the beloved book. 🐭🍪🎨

This afternoon, our Book Club reached an exciting milestone as we finished the final chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! Participants reflected on their favorite moments from Harry’s first adventure at Hogwarts and celebrated completing the book together. ⚡📖

To wrap up the day, participants voted on our next Book Club selection. Beginning next week, we’ll dive into Winterhouse, a mystery-filled story about a magical hotel packed with riddles, secrets, and puzzles waiting to be solved. Everyone is excited to put their detective skills to work! 🔍❄️🏨

We love seeing our participants build literacy skills, creativity, friendships, and confidence through hands-on activities and engaging discussions every day at The Friendship Place. ❤️

🎬🤟🍕 What a fun-filled day at The Friendship Place! 🍦🎨🧘

We started the morning with ASL Club, where participants learned signs related to household chores such as vacuuming, taking out the trash, and washing dishes. We also practiced important words like need, must, and should, helping build communication and independent living skills.

Next, participants had the opportunity to choose between joining Chair Yoga with Miss Kinsey or expressing their creativity by painting ornaments. Both activities encouraged self-expression, relaxation, and engagement.

To celebrate an incredible accomplishment, we enjoyed a pizza and ice cream party after completing our 100 Acts of Kindness Sticker Board! 🎉💙 Participants have spent weeks spreading kindness throughout our community, and we were excited to recognize their hard work and positive impact.

We wrapped up the day with Drama Club, where participants worked in teams to create and design their own movie trailers. From brainstorming storylines to developing characters and promotional ideas, everyone showcased fantastic creativity, teamwork, and imagination.

Another day filled with learning, choice-making, friendship, and fun at TFP! ❤️
