We’re thrilled to share exciting news! 🌟
Wings of Hope is preparing to launch a powerful new partnership with HiLite Consulting, an organization whose founder and operator personally faced many of the same challenges as the at-risk young people we serve.
Once funding is finalized, this collaboration will bring essential life-skills programs directly to students at Evans High School in Orlando. The goal is simple but transformative: help these young people build real control over their futures before they ever reach a transition home.
While we expand this preventive work, we remain fully committed to the outstanding partners already changing lives: Faine House, IMPOWER, and Friends of Children & Families. Together, we’re building stronger foundations earlier. Stay tuned for more details as we move forward!

Foster care was meant to be temporary protection — not a pipeline to homelessness. Data reveals that 25% to 33% of homeless youth have spent time in foster care. For those who age out without a permanent family, the risk is even higher: 31% to 46% experience homelessness by age 26. We must do better — extending support, creating housing pathways, and ensuring no one falls through the cracks.

For 30 years, Wings of Hope has held true to one simple ideal: Every young person deserves a chance at a better life.

Vulnerability to trafficking is one of the hidden dangers facing current and former foster youth. Because trafficking is underreported, we often don’t see the full picture — but studies show clear connections:
* 19% of foster runaways reported missing in 2020 were likely s*x trafficking victims.
* 28% of child trafficking cases investigated in Illinois involved youth with foster care experience.
We need better monitoring, trauma-informed care, and rapid response systems to keep these young people safe.
By supporting Wings of Hope, you reinforce our commitment to breaking this cycle.

How many children age out of foster care without ever experiencing permanency with a family? Too many.

While 18 used to be the age when foster care services traditionally ended, many states now offer extended support until age 21. That’s critical progress, but the numbers are still sobering. In 2024, 9% of youth (15,379 young people) exited foster care through emancipation, aging out without a forever family. The good news? This rate has decreased from 11% in 2009. Every percentage point matters.
These young adults step into independence carrying heavy challenges: housing, education, healthcare, and the emotional weight of growing up without a stable family.

With your help, Wings of Hope has supported initiatives that bring stability to these young people for 30 years. Like and share this post if you believe every young person deserves a family of his or her own.

This is the kind of progress our foster youth deserve.

On May 19, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved H.R. 7432, the Fostering the Future Act. This landmark bill updates the Chafee program to better support young people transitioning out of foster care with stronger connections to housing vouchers, education, job training, legal help, and permanent family relationships.

Led by a bipartisan effort and inspired by First Lady Melania Trump’s advocacy, this legislation shows what’s possible when we put politics aside and focus on results. Every young person aging out of care should have a real shot at success.

Do you hope the Senate will take action next? Reach out to your legislators, and share this post to encourage your friends to do the same.

Aging out is brutal. Kids don’t suddenly become adults because a birthday happened. Trauma doesn’t end at eighteen and neither does the need for support.

Most teens who age out are expected to handle housing, money, jobs, healthcare, and life with almost no safety net. A lot of them were never given the chance to learn those skills slowly. We call it independence, but for many kids it’s just being left alone.

What hurts the most is how quiet it gets when they leave care. The adults stop checking in. The safety disappears. Kids who already learned not to rely on anyone are told they’re on their own now.

Teens aging out don’t need speeches. They need people who stay. They need housing that doesn’t vanish and adults they can still call when things go sideways. Turning eighteen shouldn’t mean everyone disappears.

Helping aging-out young people navigate these challenges is at the heart of what Wings of Hope has done for 30 years.
