When the Taylor family relocated to Minneola, they left behind their support network and started over. As parents of three children with special needs, they knew they needed to rebuild their village intentionally. So they got to work. They joined a church, connected with community groups, and showed up to local events until Minneola started to feel like home.
That's when they connected with Easterseals Florida's Health Navigator Program.
What followed was a season of real hardship. Job loss. The end of health insurance. The weight of COBRA coverage for a family of five. Their Community Resource Navigator stepped in, connecting the Taylors to Shepherd's Hope for healthcare support and to a Florida Blue representative to explore insurance options. Through that advocacy, the family secured comprehensive, budget-friendly health coverage, including dental care. Around the same time, mom secured new employment. The ground beneath them started to feel steady again.
Then came a moment that reframed everything. The children's father received a late-life ASD Level 1 diagnosis, something he says was sparked by watching his son A.T. navigate his own Autism Level 2 diagnosis.
In his own words: "A.T. was, and is, my mirror."
That kind of insight doesn't just change one person. It changes a whole family's understanding of themselves and each other. The Taylors moved forward with more clarity, more self-advocacy, and more connection than ever. E.T. enrolled in an educational daycare. The kids jumped into Vacation Bible School, scuba classes, and Boy Scouts.
The Taylors didn't wait for help to find them. They built their village, accepted support when it arrived, and kept moving forward for each other.
Live Well Foundation of South Lake is proud to support the work that makes stories like theirs possible.
