May 1, 2026. The Freddie Stowers Overcoming Adversity Luncheon.

Last week the Clemson Sunrise Rotary Club switched up our normal morning schedule and met over lunch at the . While there we celebrated students from local elementary schools who had overcome adversity and maintained or improved their grades this year. This is one of our favorite meetings and truly makes community service a joy.

If you’re looking for a small, energetic, and FUN service organization, please come visit with us. We meet Friday mornings at 7am at the Solé On The Green in the Madren Center out by the Walker Golf Course on the Clemson University campus. (Yeah, I rambled).

We had another great speaker this week! Carolyn Nations spoke about "USA Pickens 250" and the planning of the many upcoming events in the area to celebrate our nations 250th year. Food Insecurity: a very real problem that most of us have never had to worry about. Food Insecurity: A real problem for over 20% of Pickens County school children and students.

Recently we heard from both Feed A Hungry Child PC, Inc. and Clemson University students who spoke about , a multi-day event that raises money for the .

Feed a Hungry Child started with 14 students has now grown to serve children across 14 elementary schools, five middle schools, five high schools, and the Career Center in Pickens County. Today, Feed A Hungry Child serves over 700 students each week, with plans for further expansion. Visit their website for more information: https://www.pickenschildren.com/

"The Pursuit" at Clemson is a student-led initiative focused on addressing food insecurity on campus by funding meal plans for students in need. Last year’s multi-day events raised $68,000 for the Students Helping Students Fund.
