On Oct 3rd, 2026, the Clemson Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice department took part in the 's Fall Field Day, held at the Cayce Museum. A current anthropology student, an alum, and faculty member (Dr. Justin Williams), along with other participants, worked together to excavate a test unit, demonstrating the hands-on process of archaeological fieldwork. Throughout the event, they answered questions, shared their expertise, and offered visitors a firsthand look at the methods and challenges archaeologists encounter in the field.
Events like this showcase just one of the many ways our department creates meaningful experiential learning opportunities for students, celebrates the accomplishments of our alumni, and connects with the broader community through public outreach. We were thrilled to get out in the field, share our passion for archaeology, and help make the past a little more tangible for everyone who joined us!

Earlier this spring, Clemson University Anthropology Club hosted the South Carolina Anthropology Student Conference, welcoming students from colleges and universities across the state for a day of paper and poster presentations showcasing their research and scholarship.

The event was an exciting success and, hopefully, the beginning of reviving this conference as an annual tradition.

Our anthropology students and faculty did an outstanding job coordinating every detail and representing Clemson University with professionalism, enthusiasm, and hospitality for our visiting scholars.
