Looking for ways to spend a weekend in autumn?
Then come to mid-state North Carolina for a
Four Walk / Four County Weekend
October 26-28, 2018!
Join the Triangle Trailblazers for a walk through the historic railroad town of Goldsboro,
N.C., in Wayne County. The 5K and 10K walk options will take you through a number of 19th
Century and early 20th Century homes and businesses. City and community leaders have made
great strides to preserve historic downtown properties. Walkers will see a variety of different
architectural styles, including Victorian, Romanesque Revival, Italianate and Neoclassical.
The Metrolina Walkers will host a walk at Cabin Lake County Park, a 167-acre county park
located in the eastern part of Duplin County near the town of Beulaville. A 69-acre lake provides
canoeing, fishing and swimming, RV hookups, camp sites, nature trail, and picnic sites. There is
an entry fee of $4.00 per person, but the club has made arrangements for the fee to be waived on
Sunday morning, Oct. 28, when we will have a group walk starting at the picnic shelter at 10:00
am. So come join us!
The Winston Wanderers are hosting two walks this weekend. The first is in Snow Hill, the
county seat and largest town in Greene County. The town draws its name from the historic
white sandy banks of nearby Contentnea Creek. Originally a community in central Greene
County, the town of Snow Hill was chartered in 1828 and almost became the capital of North
Carolina. The walk is through the quaint and charming Southern town of Snow Hill. Many restored homes from the 19th century along the route including the beautiful St. Barnabas Episcopal Church built in 1884 and historic cemetery. Route is flat along sidewalks and residential streets. The second is in Clinton, the heart of Sampson County, also the county seat and oldest
city in the county. Both walks show off the Historic areas of each city.
The start point for all four walks will be at the Country Inn and Suites in Goldsboro (2302
Norwood Ave, 919-581-0503). A block of rooms is being held under the group name Tarheel
Walkers, $88.00 plus tax.
Registration will be available Friday and Saturday nights 5:00-7:00,
and Saturday and Sunday mornings 7:00-8:00. A meal is being planned at a local restaurant for
Saturday night.
The routes are open at any time during daylight hours over the weekend. Group walks are being planned following
this schedule: Snow Hill at 9:00 a.m. and Goldsboro 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; Cabin Lake 9:00
a.m. and Clinton 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
