Thank you to Jimmy Campbell, director of the Johnson County Crime Stoppers for educating us on how to report a crime. Simply put: "See Something, Say Something, Do Something." Cleburne Lion John Po***ck was recently recognized for his dedication to fitness, earning first place for the most miles biked in November as part of the Lions District 2-E2 and State MD-2 “Striding for Healthy Living” program.

The initiative, launched by MD-2 Lions of Texas during the COVID shutdown, encourages members to stay active and promote healthier lifestyles. Each year in observance of World Diabetes Month in November, Lions are invited to log miles through activities such as walking, running, biking, dancing and swimming.

Participants track their exercise from Nov. 1-30 to encourage both members and their communities to stay active. Regular physical activity is one of the key factors in reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

The 80-year-old Cleburne resident exemplified that mission. He maintains a consistent routine of healthy eating, daily exercise and proper rest. During November, he rode his bicycle 15 miles per day — weather permitting — logging an impressive total of 390 miles over 26 days.

Lions District 2-E2 Second Vice District Gov. Sean Bryan presented Po***ck with a certificate recognizing his achievement.

Atmos Energy Manager of Public Affairs, Lisa Deese, presented an informative program to our Lions Club on digging. April is Atmos' Safe Digging Month. Safe digging starts by dialing 811 to have underground utility-owned lines located. By doing this, it keeps you safe and it is the law. Ms. Deese cautioned members that if they do not call 811 prior to digging and come upon a yellow gas line pipe, it is best to stop digging immediately and call 811 to prevent an accidental leak. Underground utility lines are marked using a standardized color code, as shown in the chart below on the right.

We're a little late posting, but want to send a BIG congratulations out to Cindy Rhodes, who was the winner of a $20,000 voucher towards a vehicle of her choice from one of our sponsoring dealerships. Thank you for your support in helping Cleburne Lions be able to afford vision support and type 1 diabetes support to our local kiddos. All our profits remain in Johnson County. Thank you to everyone who made it possible -- our sponsors, Cleburne Ford, Classic Chevrolet Buick GMC, Jeff England Motors; our emcee/auctioneer Commissioner Larry Woolley; Cleburne Police Chief Rob Severance, for drawing the tickets; Roscoe's Smokehouse for catering; meal sponsors Texan Heritage Realty Group, Atmos Energy, and Pinnacle Bank; to all the businesses and individuals who provided auction items and door prizes; and to everyone who bought a ticket and spent the evening with us, we could not have done it without you!
