How it all started
Brody battled a rare form of brain cancer for a year and a half. During that time Legos got him through some very hard days. He could sit for hours and do Legos when he didn’t feel like talking or walking or eating... Legos became a way he communicated with his family and drs. Once Brody started feeling better it quickly became his dream for every kid stuck in the hospital to have a set of Legos. Kids who are in the battle are often immune compromised and they can’t share so Legos are a perfect toy for them. Brody fought a long and hard battle and was even able to collect over 4,000 boxes and deliver them to St Jude Children’s Hospital and Cook’s Children’s Hospital. Nothing brought Brody more joy that seeing kids walking around St Jude with Legos sets that he knew he brought. After Brody gained his angel wings, his sister Emily took over and she has ran with it. Her fist idea was to have people send Legos to Brody’s celebration of life instead of flowers. The Stage was covered in over 3,000 boxes of Legos.
Since then there have been many different events. A group of Johnson County motorcycle enthusiasts calling themselves “Brody’s Bikers”, put together an “Arrivederci Run” bringing more than 300 boxes. They plan on making this an annual event. The Students at Cleburne High School have been a HUGE support, Raising money and donating hundreds of boxes also. There have been many schools from Crowley to Rio vista; events have occurred in Alabama all the way to North Carolina. One of the most exciting events occurred when she received a phone call from the Dallas Stars NHL Hockey team. They asked her to drop the puck on the Hockey Fights Cancer night. Brody became friends with defensive men, John Klingburg the year before, and John kept in touch with us throughout his battle. But he was so impressed with Emily’s willingness to take over he wanted to do something special for her. That night she got to drop the puck and the Dallas Stars fans donated over 2,800 boxes of Legos.
There are many events scheduled and she will always accept donations. She delivers Legos to Children’s Hospitals from Memphis TN to Dallas and Ft Worth even down to Austin. She would love to see this grow to hospitals all over the US.
