Today we'll share part one of an interview with Rachel about rescues, and the role of Claws & Toe Beans Rescue. Join us next week for part two.

What do rescues do? Is Claws & Toe Beans a "typical" rescue?

Rescues tend to have different areas of focus. Some have facilities and paid staff members while others are all-volunteer and are foster-based. There are those that focus primarily on elderly animals and providing sanctuary for them; some focus on certain breeds or cases (e.g., ragdoll-focused, FeLV-focused); some focus on TNR-only while others have adoption programs.

Ours is a bit of a mix as we try to stay responsive to the needs of the community balanced with our resources. In some ways, we’re fairly typical. We pull animals from the shelters or community when they’re in need and we have space, get them healthy, and look for homes. Many of us with smaller rescues have cats that we have kept as sanctuary kitties because they are unadoptable for one reason or another. Our rescue is maybe a little more flexible in how we operate because our mission is tied to filling in gaps. Honestly, there are days when my method of decision-making is just “do the next right thing.” I try to be strategic, overall, and I think we have been fairly good at that, but I’ve definitely made some decisions that can only be explained by “it seemed like the right thing to do.”

We believe senior pets are some of the best pets! Consider opening your home to one of these often-overlooked animals seeking a forever home. Today we are sharing a dog and a cat in the area. First, the older dog. Then, check the comments for info about the cute kitty, Toast. What a doll! https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1702470054639105&id=100046283808121&rdid=BskOpUqnKRLYCTt1

What I was afraid of for FIP meds has happened. We can no longer order FIP meds at the semi-affordable rate that allowed us to treat our fosters and help others due to Texas-specific regulations. This could end up causing gaps in treatment for many kitties here and across Texas. We're trying to stay positive but the hits keep coming. I'm not sure yet what this means for Dylan's Fund. Helping just became a lot harder. 💔

Quick note going into the weekend - our Chipotle fundraiser is coming up on June 6th here in Cleburne ❤️🌯, we're asking for help with kitten food (Fancy Feast kitten, Purina pro plan kitten, and Royal Canin Mother and Baby kibble), and we started raising funds for the kittens' and Mom's neuter this summer. We are using the funds we raised recently for vaccines, FIP meds, flea prevention, and veterinary appointments. Thank you all so much for continuing to keep us going! 🎉

I'm adding more info in the comments. It seems like when I add links, the algorithm hides our posts. 🫣
