ng. In addition to positive, powerful Sunday messages from The Reverend Leddy Hammock, with outstanding music from the Unity band, UCC offers a wide variety of classes, guest speakers and concerts. We are a diverse congregation devoted to human rights, and our "House Built on Love" embraces the belief that "we are all one people." Our Senior Minister, since her graduation from Meadville Lombard Theological Seminary, is formally known as The Reverend Dr. Leddy Hammock, but here at UCC she’s just known as “Leddy”! On Sundays she’s always teaching (never preaching), and she lets us know that she is working through “life stuff” with us. Many times we hear her listeners say, “She was speaking right to me.” Leddy is also an author who has published books, articles, poems, songs, and meditations. (You can find her Bible based “Twelve Women of the Chalice” materials in our Bookstore.) She likes to say, “We are all here for one purpose: to know and express God as God has never been known or shown before!”

When you visit UCC on a Sunday morning, please make sure to greet Leddy after the service at the front of the Sanctuary.

Construction Update

This week's update is a short one as we continue preparing to bring the building interior up to slab grade. The dirt crew is scheduled to return to the site on Wednesday, and we're hopeful conditions will allow them to continue bringing in, placing, and compacting the fill inside the building footprint.

As is often the case during Florida's rainy season, Mother Nature gets a vote! The site is currently high and dry, so we're ready to move as soon as conditions cooperate. In the meantime, coordination continues with the trades that will follow the dirt work as we prepare for the underground plumbing and electrical work that comes next.

While we wait for the next visible changes on the site, here's another look at where all of this work is leading us.

Our beautiful new Church Home is being built for us in wisdom, love, and divine timing and we are ready to receive it!

𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀

We see the hole in the fabric that must be sewn. We see the way blockaded and we roll back the stone. We see the day beyond the horizon and we do what must be done.

"The person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero" (Stan Lee, a co-creator of Superman).

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗲 (born Stanley Martin Lieber; December 28, 1922 – November 12, 2018, the son of Romanian born Jewish American parents) was an American comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer. His pen name was derived from rearranging the letters of his first name; he rose through the ranks of a family-run business called Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. He was Marvel's primary creative leader for two decades, expanding it from a small publishing house division to a multimedia corporation that dominated the comics and film industries.

In collaboration with others at Marvel—particularly co-plotters and artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko—he co-created iconic characters, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Ant-Man, the Wasp, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow. These and other characters' introductions in the 1960s pioneered a more naturalistic approach in superhero comics.

Following his retirement from Marvel in the 1990s, Lee remained a public figurehead for the company. He frequently made cameo appearances in films and television shows based on Marvel properties, on which he received an executive producer credit, which allowed him to become the actor with the highest-grossing film total ever. He continued independent creative ventures until his transition, aged 95, in 2018.
