The National Safe Boating Council exists to make recreational boating safer for all who enjoy the waterways. We serve as a national catalyst for developing a safe boating culture by providing educational resources, outreach programming, and training opportunities for industry partners and the boating community to influence safe, secure, and responsible boating. We accomplish this mission through p

rograms like Waves of Hope, Safe Boating Campaign (Wear It), and Get Connected; training programs; and through collaboration with our members and partners.

Labor Day weekend is made for one last long weekend on the water.
If drinks are part of the plan, make a designated operator part of the plan, too.
Choose your sober boat operator before you leave the dock, so everyone can relax, enjoy the day, and get back safely.

Awareness and proper boarding procedure are critical when you're boating. Consider Desirae's story.

In 2014, 14-year-old Desirae was spending Labor Day weekend with her dad when her life changed in an instant. While preparing to tube behind the boat, her leg became caught in the propeller, causing devastating injuries that required five surgeries and years of recovery.

Today, Desirae and her family bravely share their story through Waves of Hope and SPIN - Stop Propeller Injuries Now to remind us all how critical boating safety truly is. A single moment of inattention can change everything - but together, we can prevent these tragedies.

Take a moment today to learn and share how to properly board passengers. Your awareness could save a life.

Today is Falls Overboard Safety Standdown Day!

Across America's waterways, vessel operators, mariners, and safety leaders are coming together to discuss falls overboard prevention and recommit to protecting every member of our crews.
