FREE CUTTING EDGE MENTAL HEALTH CARE FOR SUN COAST PBA’s LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. Through our 2,000 Sun Coast PBA members and their families, we see the toll that PTSD, depression, traumatic brain injuries, sleep disorders, anxiety, and the cumulative stress of police work takes on people.

Making mental health treatment accessible to the men and women who serve is one of our greatest ongoing missions.

Our law enforcement officers and, through them, their families, routinely show up for everyone else on their worst days. We have to make sure that the right people and resources are available when they need someone to show up for them.

eTMS is one of the many tools in our mental health toolbox. Through a lot of hard work, we are proud that Sun Coast PBA is bringing eTMS to our members on site at work for free.

Thanks to Jonathan Vazquez, last month, we invited legislators and community leaders to come see an eTMS session live. The following legislators and leaders showed up and gave their time to discuss and understand the value of this resource:

In an emergency, knowing what to say and having important information memorized can make a huge difference. But these are things children need to learn before the emergency happens.

Courtney breaks down what kids should know, what they should be prepared to say, and why having these conversations ahead of time can help them feel more confident if they ever find themselves in a situation where they need to call 911.

TOOTH AND NAIL AND NARCAN. This is our why. When a City fights us tooth and nail because they don’t want to pay you properly or they make getting you anything resembling fair wages painful, costly, and drawn out we wish they had to look at you unresponsive on the ground in a dark apartment complex with a Narcan dispenser up your nose. We wish they had to listen as your colleagues call over the radio for help, more help, more help. We wish they had to watch as your lips turned blue and grey.

Do you know what fentanyl exposure does to a person who doesn’t do drugs? Do you know how it kills you? It acts on receptors in the brain stem that manage your autonomous respiratory drive. It shuts down your ability to breathe. This is real life, in the City of Largo, last night. It is brutal and disturbing and awful. It also brings out a level of brotherhood and sisterhood that most people will never have the privilege or the skin the game to truly understand.

But you do. And we do.

This is our why.
