See my Code of a Social Media Friend!
Hi All,
Emotions are running high and sometimes HOT, right now, on Social Media. So what do we do and how do we respond. For each of you, that is different but we can all agree that the people in your community are important for you and you want them to do well.
You want to maintain a good community for yourself and for your people. You know you need to not let emotions rule you while maintaining your passion for what you do and what you believe!
So Codes of Conduct (Creeds) for yourself that you apply in LIFE and IN BUSINESS are IMPORTANT! You believe in things like the Constitution; the teaching of your philosophies and your religion. You also have policy at work. So, if there was a Creed or Code of Conduct for A Social Media Friend, what would you put in there?
I have found myself more vocal recently regarding things I disagree with and I for sure want to keep the things that are positive in there while maintaining my stand for my beliefs and my passions. So I decided to look at MY code.
I could have just said, follow a favorite book of mine The Way to Happiness (find out about that common sense guild at www.TheWayToHappiness.org), that for sure applies, but I wanted to be more specific regarding what I found to work or not work on social media.
So here it is my Code of a Social Media Friend.
1. Don't React, but you should respond.
2. Be Kind, this includes letting people know you heard them as appropriate.
3. Allow yourself and others to have their viewpoint and opinion while enforcing and using good manners.
4. Work to be positive. Try not to be negative, even while forwarding sometimes, uncomfortable truths.
4.5. Try to focus on content that is Uplifting.
5. Do a reasonable amount of research, like read or watch the stuff you post before you post or share.
6. Be willing to accept correction.
6.5. When correcting others message them, privately when you can, to help them fix their errors and it is kind to do it this with a light touch when possible.
7. Make lots of new friends.
8. Be willing to enforce your own standards in the communication you receive and regulate your inflow of communication accordingly. (Snooze, Unfollow, Unfriend and Block accordingly).
9. Within reason try not to Offend but be willing to Offend in pursuit of maintaining your values.
10. Have Fun!
11. Help People!
12. Stand for Liberty!
13. Be real!
14. Communicate far and wide!
