CRIMINON ONSITE SEMINARS
In addition to distance learning courses, Criminon Florida offers two onsite seminars, The Way to Happiness and The Truth About Drugs. Each seminar is led by a facilitator who is responsible for playing a video covering a specific concept or precept and ensuring each student in attendance fully understands the material viewed. The facilitator then leads a discussion from set questions designed to ensure each student understands the principle discussed and sees how it can be applied to their life. These seminars are powerful. The combination of the video, facilitator and group discussion raises understanding of the principles involved. Participants gain perspective on their fellow students’ lives, views and experiences. Here is a testimonial from Cynthia, one of our participants in The Way to Happiness seminar: “I feel very strongly about this course, I believe it is the best one offered at this compound and let me explain why. I am not saying that it is more important or elevated above others, what I am saying is that by following the precepts one can achieve happiness and be a good human being, regardless of their belief structure in faith. This is a universal application that affects all of us and if we were all to apply them to our lives then we would propel a greater tomorrow and a peaceful existence. This is at the core of all religious belief....love... understanding... being moral.” Over 1,300 students have completed a Criminon seminar to date. If you would like to explore the possibility of bringing one of our seminars to your facility, write to Alison and let her know who to contact to discuss getting a seminar started! - The Criminon Florida Team

Here is what a Criminon Florida student had to say after doing the Understanding and Overcoming Addiction Course: “Because of the information detailed in this course, I became much more aware of the negative effects of drugs and the subsequent withdrawal symptoms. Therefore, I can now reinforce my commitment to stay away from drugs and even assist those I know are consuming and abusing them through ignorance.”

Understanding and Overcoming Addiction Course
“I’ve done a couple of these courses and they all help me in different ways but this course really hit close to home for me because I struggled with addiction for many years. In this course I learned how to cope with withdrawals and how to recognize that you have an addiction problem. I know now how to take steps before you walk to recovery and also to help my friends and family that are going through it. Thank you Criminon Program, the volunteers and to Alex who help me understand every lesson. I really appreciate it cause in the prison I’m at there is not many programs to help better yourself and it also like a 2 year wait for each program so for someone like me who is trying to be a better person, father, and friend I want to use the time I’m doing to learn. When I get out I don’t want to look at the time I served as a waste, I want to look back and say, “Yes I made a lot of mistakes, but I’ve learned from it and today I’m a better person because of it.” Again, thank you everyone at Criminon Program, You inspire me to want to do some volunteer work when I get out. This program has helped me in so many ways mentally, spiritually and physically. Thank you for believing in me.”

Criminon Florida has more than 100 volunteers who help inmates regain their self-respect through the courses offered on the Criminon program. The Criminon Florida Team has the following message to those they help, “You’re breaking the cycle of crime, one honest choice at a time. You’re not arguing for a better life, you’re living it. Keep setting that good example, and you’ll inspire and influence more people than you will ever know. That’s real strength.”

Here is what a Criminon Florida student had to say about The Way to Happiness course: “Until I took this course, I did not realize how unhappy I was and the effect that had on others. I began to feel better and started treating others as I wanted to be treated. I got motivated and graduated my paralegal course”.

Incarcerated individuals who pursue educational opportunities while incarcerated set themselves up for a better life once released. As the U.S. prison population remains the highest in the world and as recidivism continues to be a serious impediment to effective criminal justice and public safety, now couldn’t be a better time to implement educational programs in prison.
Inmates Who Receive Educational Courses in Prison are Less Likely to Return to a Life of Crime.

A Lifer Becomes a Criminon Facilitator and Mentor
Thank you for acknowledging me as a Criminon Facilitator. I take great pride in being a part of the Criminon organization. I’ve been incarcerated since 1988. I came to prison at the age of 22 years old. I am now 54 years old. I am currently serving a life sentence … Drugs were the destruction of my life. I was a drug dealer on the streets. My crime of murder was drug related.
“Now I choose to be a part of the solution instead of the problem.”
Prison saved my life … Criminon changed my life. Now I choose to be a part of the solution instead of the problem.
Everywhere I go I share my story and share the truth about drugs. This young generation needs more mentors and positive role models in this prison environment.
Ronald R.
