EAA Chapter 282

EAA 282 met with our Young Aviators Sunday and while we don’t always get a bunch of pictures we do have a good time learning. We went through the not-so-exciting but critical process of balancing one of our member’s RVs, practiced copying AWOS weather reports and went flying.

We’re back! EAA 282 flew another 41 kids today to add to our more than 2500 flights out of Clearwater Executive. We had a new set up and it seemed to flow very smoothly. We hope everyone had a good time. As always, a huge thanks to the volunteers, chefs, pilots and marshals who make our events run well and safely. Thanks to Mayor Bruce Rector and Flying Adventure LLC stopping by. We’ll see everyone as well as some new faces in November!

Seems like ages since we’ve had a chapter meeting! We bumped out a week for Labor Day, but EAA 282 will have our September meeting at Johnnys Italian on Monday 9/14. Dinner served at 6, meeting starting about 7.

Topics are Sporty’s pilot safety workshop, similar to our Vmc/Imc scenario discussions, presentation on seaplane flying in Scotland, and an update on the future of low lead fuels.

This is our last meeting at Johnny’s as we’ll move back to the airport for the cooler months. We’ve had a great time with them this summer, and look forward to returning next spring.

No pictures today for the Young Aviators meeting today, the camera probably would have melted in the hangar anyways- definitely need to improve the airflow.

One item we’ve noted over the years is that new pilots often lack confidence on the radio, so we’re starting a lesson series aimed at filling this gap for when our kids start formal lessons in a few years.

They left with some homework this coming month to tune into LiveATC and start learning the phonetic alphabet. We want them to be comfortable talking on their first lesson.
