When most people think of a transportation service, they think it’s just taking someone from point A to point B. What people don’t see is what goes on inside the bus. The smiles shared among passengers, the access to essential care it provides, but most importantly, the life they don’t have to give up.
This National Wellness Month, we’re highlighting some of the many ways our transportation service supports healthy aging.
Independence
Maintaining independence can mean so much as older adults age. Having reliable transportation allows them to get where they need to go without always relying on family or friends for a ride. It gives them the freedom to continue doing the things they enjoy, stay involved in their community, and have more control over their own routine.
Better Access to Care
For some of the seniors we serve, transportation can be the difference between making it to an important appointment and having to miss it. A ride to the doctor, the grocery store, or another essential destination helps them continue taking care of their health and everyday needs.
Social Connection
The ride itself can also be an opportunity for connection. Seeing a familiar face on the bus, catching up with someone they’ve gotten to know, or simply sharing a good conversation along the way can help older adults feel less isolated and build friendships with others in their community.
Every senior deserves the opportunity to age with health, connection, and dignity. Neighborly’s Transportation service, along with our dedicated drivers and volunteers, helps make that possible.
