Some students arrive at college with a clear vision of who they want to become. Gianna Phillips is one of them — and with support from the College Fund of Pinellas County, Inc., she's well on her way.

A Political Science major with minors in Biology and Legal Studies at Saint Leo University, Gianna is pursuing an ambitious path that bridges the worlds of science and law.

Her goal? To become a biomedical patent attorney and eventually practice criminal law.

College Fund alum Dana Smith wants to know if there’s something in us that prepares us to be, in effect, better parents and grandparents as we age. While dementia and Alzheimer's have clearly commanded the public’s attention in recent decades, some people have moved through their parenting years and then into their “sandwich generation” years as they become de facto caregivers throughout their adulthood. Some do it very well.

What allows for this? Smith wants to know.

For many students, the gap between graduation and a fulfilling career can feel wide and uncertain. For Aylin Bautista-Martinez, a 2025 graduate of Nova Southeastern University, that gap barely existed at all.

Aylin earned her Bachelor of Science in Cardiovascular Sonography last spring and stepped directly into a full-time role as a Cardiac Sonographer. In other words, she’s been fortunate to do meaningful, life-impacting work in the field she prepared years to enter.

It's the kind of outcome that doesn't happen by accident. It takes focus, hard work, and the right support at the right time. That's where the College Fund of Pinellas County made a real difference.

"The scholarship made a positive impact, as I was able to narrowly avoid taking out a small student loan," Aylin shared. "As a result, I focused more attentively on coursework and clinicals while maintaining a part-time job to cover transportation and other educational expenses."

This special gathering is the one time each year when our scholars, board members, donors, and community friends come together in one place to celebrate academic achievement and share in the spirit of the season.

We were blessed by a moving invocation from Anona United Methodist Church's Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Latricia Scriven and inspired by an uplifting keynote from her husband, Darryl Scriven. We also had the honor of recognizing several individuals whose dedication has helped make the College Fund the impactful organization it is today.
