FND PSN Parent Support Network (PSN) ensures parents have the training and information they need to ensure their children lead productive, independent lives.

This program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), is the Parent Training Information (PTI) center for the following counties: Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry,
Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, and Sumter. PTI services help to ensure that parents of children with the full range

of disabilities have the training and information they need to prepare their children for not only school but to be able to lead productive, independent lives to the fullest extent possible

This workshop introduces supported decision-making as an alternative to guardianship, empowering individuals with disabilities to make their own informed choices with help from trusted supporters. Participants will explore the legal frameworks surrounding supported decision-making, including updated information from new Florida legislation, and learn how to implement it in various areas of life, such as healthcare, education, and finances. Ideal for families, caregivers, and professionals, this session provides practical tools and real-life examples to support individuals' autonomy and independence.

Students who develop self-determination skills have a stronger chance of success by focusing on essential abilities needed during adolescence. Key components of self-determination include self-awareness, personal management, effective communication, speaking up for oneself, navigating systems, decision-making, goal setting, and problem-solving. These experiences allow young individuals to explore their strengths in expressing their needs and making informed choices. Adult outcomes for the students were assessed using a scale completed by parents.
