Alamo Scouts Historical Foundation, Inc. The U.S. Sixth Army Special Reconnaissance Unit of World War Two The Admiralties - New Guinea - Leyte - Luzon - Japan

Formed as a top secret ad hoc unit by LTG Walter Krueger on 28 November 1943 to conduct raider and reconnaissance work in the Southwest Pacific, the Alamo Scouts performed a known 110 missions behind enemy lines without losing a single man killed or captured. Of the more than 700 candidates selected for training, only 138 were retained as Alamo Scouts and were formed into elite six-to-seven man te

ams. Throughout the war the Alamo Scouts conducted the doctrinal missions of Special Reconnaissance, Direct Action, Foreign Internal Defense, and Unconventional Warfare. In less than seventeen months in the field the Alamo Scouts earned 118 combat decorations and numerous other awards. The unit was unceremoniously disbanded in late November 1945 with a war record unmatched in United States military history. In 1988 the Alamo Scouts were awarded the Special Forces Tab recognizing the unit as a forerunner of the modern Special Forces.

Need a little help from my Filipino friends. Trying to determine the exact date of death of TSG Daniel C. Belarmino (b. 8-12-1913) from the 1st Filipino Infantry Regt. (trained Alamo Scout from the 4th class), who was KIA on Leyte, Samar, or Luzon sometime in March 1945. The photo was taken at his funeral in the P.I. Any help with the inscription is appreciated. Salute!

The WRB Podcast Episode Three: In this episode, Russ and Lance examine the experiences of the Scout candidates during their six weeks of intensive training at the Alamo Scouts Training Center. The podcast begins with the orientation message delivered by the Director of Training to the incoming candidates. Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Bradshaw was known for his calm demeanor—he never raised his voice, never shouted, and never used profanity. Nevertheless, he commanded respect at all times:

Something New Coming in 2025: The Alamo Scouts Historical Foundation will be producing video podcasts. The ASHF Board of Directors has decided that the foundation needs to expand its reach and engage with the general public. The podcasts will initially be pre-recorded and will later transition to live broadcasts via YouTube. The hosts will be Executive Director Russ Blaise and Historian/Author Lance Zedric.
“There’s still a lot of interest in World War II in the Pacific,” says Blaise. “This might be the best way to communicate the role the Alamo Scouts played in the war.” Lance adds, “Our aim is to reach a wider audience—to tap into the untapped trove of documents, diaries, and stories of those who had contact with or supported the Alamo Scouts in training or on missions.”
We are still refining the format for the podcast. Over the years, thousands of questions have been asked, and now we have a platform to provide some answers about the Alamo Scouts.
Please stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new adventure.
