For golfer Flip Bradley, a self-described "competitive person at heart", participating in Senior Games is the perfect way to get on the course and play his best against other athletes. It's also an opportunity to continue playing the sports he loves and meet new people.

His advice to others? Find a sport, get out there and do it!

Cynthia Givens' Senior Games journey started at her local library. There she stopped to look at a magazine and found an article about the Oklahoma Senior Games.

Instantly curious, Cynthia attended that summer's Track and Field competition as a spectator. "I went to watch and decided, I think I can do this," she recalls. "I just had to find my thing."

The following year, Cynthia returned to the same meet — this time as an athlete! After competing in the Oklahoma Senior Games for two years, she qualified for her first National Senior Games and traveled to Des Moines to compete alongside athletes from across the country.

When asked about her advice for first time participants like herself, Cynthia encourages others to, "Throw out all concerns and people's doubts, just stay focused on what you think you can do...There are so many different activities…find your niche and just get into it."

While playing horseshoes, a relative encouraged Elaine Angleberger to check out the Maryland Senior Olympics. Despite challenges from neuropathy, she gave it a shot, and 18 years later Elaine is a familiar face at her state competitions and the National Senior Games.

Along the way she’s found friendship and the motivation to keep striving for improvement. Last year brought a first when her 50-year-old daughter joined her to participate in Co****le at the National Senior Games.

Elaine’s advice for anyone considering getting involved?
“Take your first step and you'll never regret it. It sets you on the right path to improving your health.”

A special part of the National Senior Games is seeing generations of families competing and achieving together.

Father-and-son duo Chuck (93) and Phil (74) Milliman are a perfect example. The pair both compete in Track & Field events, including the High Jump and Pole Vault.

Chuck didn’t begin running seriously until his 40s. Over the last 50 years, he completed dozens of marathons and embraced track & field competition. Phil, a former high school pole vaulter, eventually inspired his father to give the event a try himself — and the two have been jumping together ever since.

Jean Hinkle likes to win — and she's done a lot of it! Jean's been playing basketball since her teens and competing in the Tennessee Senior Olympics since 1989. During Tennessee's 2025 Games, Jean competed in multiple sports and walked away with 10 gold medals.

At 92, Jean's active life is more than just physically active. You'll often find her socializing with friends at the Greene County YMCA and distributing hot meals to those in need through a church program she and her daughter started.
