Ucross Foundation

Ucross Foundation Ucross is a world-class artist residency program on a historic 20,000-acre ranch in northern Wyoming. Our participants come from all over the world.

Ucross Foundation, a 501(c)3 public nonprofit organization, has been welcoming artists since 1983. For 40 years, Ucross has been giving space and time to artists across disciplines, including visual and interdisciplinary artists, writers, composers, and performing artists. In our complex of private studios and shared residences, visiting artists build a small, intense community hard at work in the

midst of 20,000 acres of Wyoming ranchland. Ucross's home is a working ranch set at the confluence of three creeks, and our purpose is to bring deeply committed artists into the heart of this unparalleled landscape. We believe that being a good steward of the land closely resembles being a good artist, and vice versa. Both require dedication, imagination, and the best possible use of the resources at hand. In addition to fostering the work of individual artists, Ucross is a meeting and working place for groups, a multi-disciplinary laboratory for creative thinking. The Ucross Art Gallery, a cultural landmark of northern Wyoming, features artwork by acclaimed former artists-in-residence. We invite the public to visit, free of charge, and then enjoy espresso and freshly baked pastries at the onsite Ucross Café. We also help sponsor and host educational programs, conferences, and special events. Our reach is as close as our nearest neighbors and as distant as almost any spot on earth. Ucross is home to the creative spirit.

Painters, sculptors, a printmaker, a writer, and a composer — meet the 11 contemporary Western artists who will be featured at the Ucross Gala on Thursday, September 24.

Held in the heart of Ucross, the evening will begin with a cocktail reception during which Ucross Fellow Tracy Stuckey will finish a painting live that will later be auctioned off. Ucross Fellow Jesse Blake Rundle, a singer-songwriter, will then perform during the dinner in a heated tent on the Big Red Lawn.

The silent auction will feature a curated selection of artworks from Ucross alumni, including Wendy Bredehoft David Brock, Sandra Harris, Adrianna Hinds, Martin John Garhart, Susan Moldenhauer, Mark Spragg, and Sue Sommers, along with a special painting by Theodore Waddell.

You are invited to join us for a special screening of current artist-in-residence Emily Harrold’s short film “Meltdown in Dixie” at Sheridan College Kooi Library on Wednesday, September 9, at 6 p.m.

“Meltdown in Dixie” is about BBQ, ice cream, and the broader role of Confederate symbolism in the 21st century and the lingering racial oppression which symbols such as this help maintain.

After the 40-minute screening, we will have a brief Q&A with Emily.

This event is free and open to the public.

Seeking a way to contribute to the horticulture of Ucross?

We are in the process of creating a rose garden for community, visitors, and artists to enjoy. Ucross Farmer Esper Gaspardi is looking to locals for donations of full or divided perennials to fill around our roses, including nine bark, catmint, lavender, penstemons, yarrow, and anything else local green thumbs might recommend.

If you would like to contribute a plant, please email [email protected] with the subject line “Garden.”
