Ucross Foundation

Ucross Foundation Ucross is a world-class artist residency program on a historic 20,000-acre ranch in northern Wyoming. Our participants come from all over the world.

Ucross Foundation, a 501(c)3 public nonprofit organization, has been welcoming artists since 1983. For 40 years, Ucross has been giving space and time to artists across disciplines, including visual and interdisciplinary artists, writers, composers, and performing artists. In our complex of private studios and shared residences, visiting artists build a small, intense community hard at work in the

midst of 20,000 acres of Wyoming ranchland. Ucross's home is a working ranch set at the confluence of three creeks, and our purpose is to bring deeply committed artists into the heart of this unparalleled landscape. We believe that being a good steward of the land closely resembles being a good artist, and vice versa. Both require dedication, imagination, and the best possible use of the resources at hand. In addition to fostering the work of individual artists, Ucross is a meeting and working place for groups, a multi-disciplinary laboratory for creative thinking. The Ucross Art Gallery, a cultural landmark of northern Wyoming, features artwork by acclaimed former artists-in-residence. We invite the public to visit, free of charge, and then enjoy espresso and freshly baked pastries at the onsite Ucross Café. We also help sponsor and host educational programs, conferences, and special events. Our reach is as close as our nearest neighbors and as distant as almost any spot on earth. Ucross is home to the creative spirit.

Don't forget to register for our next sound hike on Tuesday, June 23, at 9 a.m. to experience “Confluences.”

Ucross staff will guide visitors on a private trail on the ranch as interactive areas of sound play including voices of the Ucross community, former artists-in-residence, local residents of Clear Creek Valley, and field recordings taken in different seasons.

“Confluences” is an emplaced sound experience created by Ucross artist-alumni Teri Rueb and Laurids Sonne, where interactive areas of sound play as visitors wander, revealing a sonic landscape of sounds recorded over three years.

The event is free and open to the public, with required registration. For registration and details, visit: bit.ly/4f6OFez

Join us on Tuesday, June 16, at 5 p.m., for the grand reopening of the newly remodeled Big Red Ranch House.

The festivities will include a ribbon-cutting with the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, an open house, and the opening of the Big Red Showcase featuring artwork by Ucross Fellow Arin Waddell. Light refreshments will be served.

At 6:30 p.m., following the open house, we will present a ticketed, elegant summer picnic on the Big Red Lawn featuring a performance by beloved local musician and former Ucross artist-in-residence Dave Munsick. Dinner will include a variety of dishes featuring locally grown veggies and pastured meat, artisan baked goods, and, of course, delicious desserts, all accompanied by an array of beverages, including sparkling water, lemonade, beer, wine, and a signature Big Red Sangria. "At Ucross, I found space — not just the vast, breathtaking landscape, but the kind of space that allows ideas to unfold organically,” Tulu Bayer shared with us after her Spring 2025 residency. “I gathered traces of the land itself, turning vegetation into paper, layering it with images and stories of migration. Creativity here feels like an extension of the earth — rooted, expansive, and deeply connected. Grateful for the time, the place, and the incredible community that made this experience unforgettable."
