Ucross Foundation

Ucross Foundation Ucross is a world-class artist residency program on a historic 20,000-acre ranch in northern Wyoming. Our participants come from all over the world.

Ucross Foundation, a 501(c)3 public nonprofit organization, has been welcoming artists since 1983. For 40 years, Ucross has been giving space and time to artists across disciplines, including visual and interdisciplinary artists, writers, composers, and performing artists. In our complex of private studios and shared residences, visiting artists build a small, intense community hard at work in the

midst of 20,000 acres of Wyoming ranchland. Ucross's home is a working ranch set at the confluence of three creeks, and our purpose is to bring deeply committed artists into the heart of this unparalleled landscape. We believe that being a good steward of the land closely resembles being a good artist, and vice versa. Both require dedication, imagination, and the best possible use of the resources at hand. In addition to fostering the work of individual artists, Ucross is a meeting and working place for groups, a multi-disciplinary laboratory for creative thinking. The Ucross Art Gallery, a cultural landmark of northern Wyoming, features artwork by acclaimed former artists-in-residence. We invite the public to visit, free of charge, and then enjoy espresso and freshly baked pastries at the onsite Ucross Café. We also help sponsor and host educational programs, conferences, and special events. Our reach is as close as our nearest neighbors and as distant as almost any spot on earth. Ucross is home to the creative spirit.

Last week, we bid farewell to our Transatlantic Rising Star artist-in-residence, Bim Eriksson, at The Warehouse Gastropub. Surrounded by friends new and old, a Swedish-inspired smorgasbord, and a traditional Swedish toast to end the evening, this was a celebration we won’t soon forget. Thank you to the community members who joined us for this wonderful event!

This week, Bim will present her collaborative work with local artist Polly Burge and poet David Romvedt at the State of the Arts Night in Washington, D.C., hosted by our partners at the European Union Delegation to the U.S.

Today, we are thrilled to announce the grand reopening of the Big Red Ranch House. Since late July 2025, construction teams have been hard at work on a much-needed major renovation, from roof to foundation.

Join us on June 16 at 5 p.m. for the ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce and a public open house. Following the festivities, at 6:30 p.m., Ucross will offer a ticketed summer picnic with live music featuring local musician and Ucross Fellow Dave Munsick.

“Ucross has been an irreplaceable part of my development as a sound artist and composer,” shared John Atkinson after his recent residency. “This was my second residency, and during each the luxury of uninterrupted time and inspiring company had led to step changes in my practice, which continue to pay dividends. Ucross will always be a part of my work, and my creative soul.”
