🚨 A PLEA FOR TERRY 🚨
SIX YEARS IS TOO LONG!!
Shelters are meant to be temporary.
For Terry, temporary has stretched into at least six years.
Over those years, Terry has lived through three different organizations operating this shelter. Staff and volunteers have changed.
But Terry has remained.
There was a brief moment when we thought his shelter days were finally behind him. Terry was adopted, but later he was picked up as a stray and found himself right back where he started.
And he has been waiting ever since.
Terry can be shy when meeting new people, more so men, and he needs a little time to decide that you are safe. But once he trusts you, a completely different dog comes out. He can coexist with other dogs. He originally came in with a small dog.
He is silly, affectionate and full of personality. He will roll over for belly rubs, eagerly wait for his turn to go on a walk, splash around in the water and happily play fetch. The people who know Terry know there is so much more to him than the cautious dog you may meet at first.
Six years is an enormous portion of a dog’s life to spend behind kennel doors. Walks, enrichment, treats, playtime and love from the people who care for him matter but none of those things can replace having a home.
Terry deserves the chance to know what it feels like to leave the shelter and not come back.
He deserves a couch and a home routine. His person. Someone wo can manage his insecurities and build his confidence. A yard where he can play fetch and a pool to splash in. A quiet place to sleep soundly where the lights don’t turn on every morning to another routine day in a shelter kennel.
We know long-term shelter dogs can require patience and time to adjust. After everything Terry has experienced, we want his next placement to be thoughtful, supported and successful. But we also know his story cannot simply continue here year after year.
Share Terry. Tag rescues. Tell your friends. If you have been thinking about fostering or adopting, consider opening your home to the dog who has already spent six years waiting for his turn.
