Pioneer Flight 32 met on December 16that the Oak Ridge Country Club for our Annual Christmas meeting. This meeting was open to both members and guests. We all welcomed Pat Gilmore back following his medical illness. Always good to see someone return.
We began with our usual social hour and followed with some delicious menu selections. After dinner our festivities continued with a “White Elephant” gift exchange. It began with the drawing of numbers and a brief refresher of the “rules of engagement. ”What followed was the selection of a gift followed by another gift selection (or stealing a previously selected gift) up to the maximum three steals. Bottles of wine went back and forth rapidly until reaching the limit. Some other gifts included aircraft instrument coasters, a Ninja suit, and an actual white elephant figurine. Everyone left with something, some drinkable and some not.
Next meeting will be on January 20th, 2022. Watch for details.

On November 18th, Pioneer Flight 32 met at the Oak Ridge Country Club for a “Members Only” meeting. Following a social hour, we began the meeting.
Flt. Captain Hope told the members about our visit to the 421st Fighter Squadron to present the Orville Wright Award. We met with numerous squadron pilots while there. They are a hardworking, enthusiastic group, and seemed to enjoy hearing about our aviation experiences. We look forward to having a social with them and recruiting them into our organization. We need all hands on deck for the social.
There are two events coming up in 2022. The Wings over the Wasatch Airshow and the Utah Aviation Hall of Fame presentation. Both have been delayed due to COVID. We discussed our participation in both events.
Since there was no scheduled speaker, the remainder of the meeting consisted of reminiscing war, peace, and bar stories. A great way to spend the evening with fellow aviators hearing past exploits.
Next meeting will be the Christmas Party on December 16th at the Oak Ridge Country Club. Watch for details.

On June 4, 1983, at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, the 419th Tactical Fighter Wing, the last U.S. Air Force unit flying the Republic F-105 Thunderchief supersonic fighter bomber, flew a Diamond of Diamonds 24-ship formation as the “Thud” was was withdrawn from service after 25 years to be replaced by the General Dynamics F-16. Of 833 Thunderchiefs built by Republic Aviation Corporation, 334 were lost to enemy action during the Vietnam War. Though designed for air-to-ground attack missions, F-105s are officially credited with 27.5 victories in air combat.
