Kinney Pioneer Museum Open to the public May-September, Wed. -Sat. from 12-4 p.m.

Explore North Central Iowa history through vintage exhibits and living history, including our one-room school house, log cabin, jail, blacksmith shop and agricultural shed.

The Kinney Pioneer Museum is now closed for the 2026 year. Thank you to everyone who visited and donated to our revitalization efforts and our Repair the Caboose fund. Outside work is underway and will be completed in the spring. All of you made this one of our best years ever.

But we are just getting started. Visit us again next year to see the changes. I will be posting pictures throughout the year.

Even though we are closed to the public, I will still conduct tours for businesses, organizations and schools in October and November and again in March and April 2027, weather permitting. Call 641-423-1258 to book your tour.

Apple C***r & Donut Day was a great success and a lot of fun. Thank you to the wonderful people on the KPM Board of Directors and other volunteers for making this event run smoothly and supplying the dynamic energy. Thank you also to our wonderful historic era demonstrators that were weaving rugs, spinning yarn, making ropes and stoking the blacksmith forge.

The weather hasn't been cooperating lately, but our Apple C***r & Donut Day is still on. Music, face paiting, kids' crafts under the tent and in the school house, blacksmithing, rug making, rope making and yarn spinning demonstrations. Enjoy some cookies and tea while learning a little bit about Civil War times. And of course - there is our delicious Apple C***r pressed on our antique apple press. Sorry I've been Facebook silent for a few weeks. September has been such a whirlwind of activity I haven't had time to think. First- just a reminder about the last event of the season - Apple C***r and Donut Day on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 1-5. My crew has been busy getting ready for this event and it is sure to be a good one.

Second - Something else near and dear to my heart. By now word has gotten around that the Vietnam Wall Memorial is coming into town. The wall will be escorted from Minnesota through Manly and on to the North Iowa Event Center where it will be set up.

The Wall is being escorted by hundreds of American Legion
Riders, and others, and the Manly Unit #110 (of which my husband is a part of) will be in the lead. I'm sure there will be lots of people lining the highway to greet them.

Our Back to School event this past weekend was a lot of fun. Kids learned a new game, raced each other in gunny sacks and watched the blacksmith ply his trade at the old forge. Here are some pictures from the day.

The 2026 World Aerobatic Championship will be taking place at the Mason City Municipal Airport beginning Monday August 24th through September 2nd. The Kinney Pioneer Museum (KPM) welcomes all the international pilots, crews, officials, families, and aviation enthusiasts to our museum and to our community!

The Mason City Municipal Airport will become the stage for the 33rd FAI World Aerobatic Championships where more than 30 of the world's top aerobatic pilots will compete for individual and team world titles.

And best of all, the KPM, located at the entrance to the airport, is right in the thick of things. The KPM will be open extended hours - Monday, Sept. 24 - Sept. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The word has gotten out - Don't miss the FREE Back-To-School event at the KPM this Sunday from 11 a.m. - 1p.m. !!!!

Plans have changed a lot. There will be no classroom activities for the kids in the one-room schoolhouse. We are giving them one more day of reprieve. Instead, there will be more crafts and games spread out over the whole grounds. And for mom and dad, Ruth Ann Zimmerman, YouTuber and Author, will give a program on Homesteading at 1 p.m.

There will be food vendors, a DJ. and face painting on the grounds. Inside the museum, kids can pick up a scavenger sheet, play memory games, build a log cabin and color one of our very own coloring sheets which highlights parts of our musem.
