The mission of Foster the Family is to fill a gap and remove a roadblock of saying no to a foster child needing a home and family. We will love, encourage and build up foster and birth families in our community through support and providing for physical and tangible needs. Our vision is that foster and birth families have a Christian community who supports them as they reunite families and care for God’s children by supplying material items and necessities for families, sustaining ongoing services for foster and adoptive families and equipping people to engage in caring for children and families in need.

The Large Item Loan Library has had a year. 📈

Since we started, we've loaned out 74 items to local foster and kinship families. This year alone? 43. That's not a typo, that's a serious uptick.

Cribs, car seats, strollers, bedding: no time limit, no verification needed. If a family needs it, we want it in their hands.

Last year, Operation Santa found sponsors for 90 kids across 34 local families, and we're hoping to reach even more this year. 🎄

Sign up now to sponsor a child's Christmas in our area, for $50 you can shop for your child yourself or let us do the shopping. Once a family submits their wishlist, you'll be matched and sent the details, starting around October 19.

Heads up for anyone in the adoption, foster or orphan care space: HOPE2026 is coming to Des Moines. 🙌

November 6-7 at NorthPoint Church, this two-day, gospel-centered conference brings together families, pastors and ministry leaders for worship, breakout sessions and real community around adoption and foster care.

If you've ever wanted a weekend to be encouraged, equipped and reminded you're not alone in this, this could be it. Registration's open now.

Foster, kinship, and adoptive families, mark your calendars. 🎄

Operation Santa Iowa 2026 is coming, Sunday, December 13, 5-7pm at The Hub. Keep an eye out for your invitation in the mail, and watch for Foster SQUAD / Four Oaks Foster Care, Adoption, and Kinship registration opening around October 12, that's how your kids' wishlists get set up for personalized gifts.

Don't forget to RSVP with us too, we use that for headcount and to make sure everyone's on the list. 👍

It's getting cold out here (allegedly). 🥶➡️🧥

We're flipping our Cozy Cases from summer to fall, and we figured, why not show you instead of tell you.

Watch what happens when shorts and tank tops meet actual Iowa weather. Spoiler: everyone's a lot happier once the sweaters show up.

This is exactly why the flip matters. Every case gets checked and swapped so a kid never gets caught in the wrong season. 👍

Quick ask this week: we need hard-sided suitcases. 🧳

Carry-on size specifically. And if you've got one with a fun kid print, dinosaurs, unicorns, superheroes, whatever, even better. Plain works too, but the fun ones make a kid's day a little brighter.

These are what our Cozy Cases are built around, and right now our shelf is thin.

Confession: we didn't realize September was National Kinship Care Month until it was almost over. 😅

So we're using the last couple days of it well.

Across the country, about 2.5 million kids are being raised by a grandparent, aunt, uncle or close family friend instead of a parent. That's kinship care, and it's exactly the kind of family stepping up we get to support every single day.

To every grandma, aunt, uncle or family friend who said yes to a kid who needed you: we see you. This month was made for you, even if we only just found out.

We'll be marking our calendars for next September. In the meantime, we're here for you all year long. 👍

Last call for summer. ☀️

We're swapping our Cozy Cases over soon, so if you've got summer clothing, shorts, tanks, sandals, sitting around, now's the time to bring it in.

Once we flip to fall, summer sizes get harder to come by until next year.

Every item you drop off goes straight into a case waiting for a kid who needs it. 👍

A phone rings. There's a quick conversation. And suddenly a family has a day, or less, to prepare for a child they've never met.

That's how it starts for a lot of foster placements.

Kids often arrive with almost nothing. Sometimes a trash bag with a few belongings. Sometimes just the clothes they're wearing. Foster parents rarely get more than the basics: an age, maybe a name, maybe nothing at all.

In that first hour, the goal isn't a tour or a rulebook. It's making a scared, confused kid feel safe.

This is exactly why Cozy Cases exist. When a child shows up with nothing, we want them to walk away with something that's theirs. New. Chosen for them. Not borrowed, not hand-me-down. Theirs to keep.

That first night is hard enough. We're here to make it a little less so. 👍
