We’re excited to introduce the Stockmans Contest, giving exhibitors another chance to test their livestock knowledge while competing for cash prizes!

After an incredible season, the Frederick County 4-H Stockmans Team earned the opportunity to compete at the National Contest this fall, and we wanted to bring that same experience to our exhibitors.

We’re excited to introduce this year’s judge. Sarah-Jane French, a native of Cumberland, VA, developed her passion for agriculture while working on her family’s 100-acre produce farm and raising livestock. For more than 13 years, she has been involved in the show goat industry, first co-founding S and R Show Goats with her father and now continuing that passion alongside her fiancé, Nick, raising high-quality show goats.

Her involvement in 4-H sparked a love for livestock evaluation, leading her from a national champion 4-H judging team to collegiate judging careers at Butler Community College and Texas Tech University. She later earned a master’s degree in animal science while coaching judging teams at Tarleton State University.

Today, Sarah-Jane serves as an Extension agent in Central Montana, where she is committed to supporting the livestock industry through education, mentorship, and youth development. Her passion lies in helping young people build confidence, knowledge, and leadership skills while fostering the next generation of agricultural advocates and industry leaders.

The countdown is on for the 2026 Independence Day Shootout Sheep & Goat Jackpot Show at the Frederick County Fairgrounds!

We’re excited to welcome Sarah-Jane French back home to Virginia to sort this year’s show!

📣 A few updates for 2026:
✅ Sheep will now show by breed:
• White Face Crosses
• Naturals
• Crossbreds

✅ The show will begin at 9:30 AM

✅ Virginia Showmasters Circuit Sanctioned (following their rules)

Most importantly, this show serves as a fundraiser for the Frederick County 4-H Livestock Judging, Meats Judging, and Stockman’s Teams as they prepare to represent our community on the national stage this fall. Your support through entries helps provide valuable opportunities for these hardworking youth competitors.

Whether you’re bringing sheep, goats, or both, we look forward to celebrating Independence Day weekend with a great day of competition, learning, and fellowship.

THANK YOU! 🇺🇸🐑🐐

On behalf of the Frederick County 4-H Stockman’s, Livestock, and Meats Judging Teams, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the 2025 Independence Day Shootout a huge success!

We welcomed 153 exhibitors from 5 states and saw nearly 500 entries—including an outstanding showmanship competition. Despite the heat, the day was full of good livestock, great people, and unforgettable memories.

A special shoutout goes to our incredible volunteers—your time, effort, and sweat behind the scenes did not go unnoticed. Thank you to everyone who traveled from near and far to be part of this event, and to those who supported the raffle, vendors, and show throughout the day.

And of course, none of this would’ve been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Thank you for believing in our youth and helping us put on a show that supports the future of agriculture.

We are beyond grateful for the support, and we can’t wait to see everyone again next year!

Showmanship has kicked off and we will be moving efficiently today. Please make sure you are on time for your class. Updates will be posted on the Band App and on the whiteboard in the ready ring.

Please double check your entries on showman and notify us of any changes and if you are going to scratch an entry please let the ready ring know. (All sheep have been posted as of 10:30, goats to come)

We will not be taking breaks between showmanship and wether dams, market lambs. The only break will be after the sheep show to briefly take pictures.
