A VERY MERRY MUFFIN! Sharing a delightful video of our friend Muffin, in her new home… just one week in, she is already a much happier cat, and rediscovering her inner kitten, playing with toys again! This poor lady spent several months, heartbroken, at the shelter, after losing her home when her companion became ill… but we think she’d agree it was worth the wait for a second home like the one she’s enjoying now. She is already bonding with her new human friends, who... surprisingly… tell us “she loves being cuddled so much!” We are all filled with joy at this news, and also humbled, once again, by cats like Muffin, who don’t let the loss of a loving home break their spirits, and the compassionate people who give them a second chance. Thank you to everyone who shared her post, and much love and gratitude to her adopters!

HOORAY FOR HOLLY! She left the shelter today with a compassionate young couple who have another feline friend for her. We hope this is just what she needs to realize her full kitty potential. Thank you all for sharing!

PLEASE NOTE! We have a promising prospect for Holly, they are coming in Wednesday morning to meet her!

SHY, LONELY LADY SEEKS FELINE FRIENDSHIP: They call me Holly, because I arrived here during the holiday season, and because I am very pretty, like Holly Golightly. (And while Breakfast is a must, it need not be at Tiffany’s!) I am actually a fairly low-maintenance girl with simple tastes… all I wish for is a nice companion to help me get over my fears, a therapy cat who is also in need of a friend, the kind who will help me achieve my full potential and forget all about my previous life as a stray cat.

I have been lonelier of late, as my companions in my early days here have all moved on. They were so kind to me, doted on me, bathed my ears and cheeks, snuggled with me, and then, just as I was about to let go of my inhibitions, they left me. The staff at my job tried to pair me with some young ladies, but they were just wild teenagers who liked to party, and I prefer a quieter colleague, one who enjoys naps and cuddling up in a hammock, maybe with a light snack. Though I’m only about 4 years old, I prefer a more mature relationship.

Now my current colleagues are too like-minded, shy like me, and we know not what to do with each other, as we are all very respectful of each other’s boundaries — we sit there and gaze at each other, each afraid to make the first move. And I’m lonely.

My volunteer friends suggested we try this dating app, Meowtch.com, to find that feline companion who needs me just as much as I need him… or her… I’m not picky! And I’m spayed, so I’m not really looking for romance, just comfort and friendship. I already have a tuxedo, and am hoping to find my match in time for prom.

I may be shy, I may be a little sad, but with the right companion, I promise to blossom into an affectionate, content little queen.

I currently live in a small loft, which the humans call a cage, but at least it has a window view, and comfortable furnishings. But I’m ready for more space, a quieter place. I have one volunteer friend who understands how to handle me, with tender, loving care, and she takes me on outings to the playroom, where other volunteers can spend time petting me, feeding me treats, reading poetry to me, and taking countless photos of me. I know I can learn to trust another human, if I have a feline friend to show me the way… but no canines, please. And no young humans, as they might not understand my timid nature.

I am up to date on my vaccinations, have received dewormers and flea treatments, and also tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia. There is no adoption fee for me, but if you are interested in me, the staff here would like to speak with you about my needs and best prospects for a good match. You can reach a staff member at 401-647-7200 or [email protected]. Just tell them Holly sent you!

GREAT NEWS! MUFFIN HAS FOUND A HOME! Thank you everyone for sharing! A real angel contacted us Monday morning and came in to meet Muffin today, and took her home. She seems to know exactly what Muffin needs, and we are very hopeful this home will be just that — exactly what Muffin needs!

PLEASE SHARE! HEARTBROKEN LADY NEEDS A QUIET HOME: Muffin is still at the shelter, waiting for a home… almost six months after arriving, after her human companion became ill and could no longer care for her. We truly believe that once she is in a home, she will quickly get over her heartbreak and depression — we just need someone to give her a chance!

She was distressed to find herself in such a strange and different environment when she arrived at the shelter, and refused to leave her cage. Though she sometimes appeals to her volunteers for some petting and head-scratching and treats, she often tells us, “I just want to be left alone until my person comes to get me.” She occasionally chats with us if we approach her and talk “cat” to her. And when she is out, she will hop up on the ottoman for some attention and petting from volunteers. But she is very unhappy at the shelter, and must get back into a real home.

Muffin’s ideal environment is a very quiet home, one with just a single person or a retired couple, where she has much more consistency in her daily life than we can provide at the shelter. One thing we have learned about her, more than anything, is that she wants quiet and consistency. We expect that it won’t take more than a couple weeks for her to realize she is back in a safe home, with people who care for her, and can forget all about her sad stint at the shelter. All you have to do is make sure she knows where her litter box, food and water are, preferably in a starter room, a quiet room where she can adjust to the new home and realize she is no longer going to be caged. After a couple of days, it should be fine to leave the door open, so she can explore on her own, and come and make your acquaintance at her own pace. She’s not a feral or anti-social cat. She’s just very sad.

She’s not fond of other cats, but she doesn’t fight with them. She just prefers if they leave her alone in her heartache. Most of the new cats try to solicit her attention, politely so, and she yowls at them to get away, but that’s as bad as it gets. She’d probably prefer a home with no other cats, but should adjust to living with a cat that has a similar temperament.

Muffin is 10 years old, spayed, and current on her rabies vaccination. She went to the vet for a wellness checkup, and other having a little tartar on her teeth and being overweight, she is in good health. She is 16 pounds, and though she is naturally a large cat, she should lose a few pounds, which she no doubt gained during her months at the shelter. But we don’t have any trouble handling her.

If you think you can provide the home that this sad cat needs, please contact Scituate Animal Control at 401-647-7200 for more information, and to arrange to meet her. There is no adoption fee, but we do want to make sure the home is right for her. She has all the makings of being a quiet, gentle companion cat to someone who just likes to have a cat around. And please know that if it doesn’t work out, the shelter will gladly take her back and keep trying to make her happy.
