Look at our sign next time we now have the QR code to use Venmo to make it easier to donate to the Cemetery Yesterday still sorting out the storage in the Chapel I came across yet a other system of Cemetery Lots this now makes 4 different systems to find lots or to ensure lots are filed correctly.
This drawer unit has about 500 cards and has a musty smell that needs to air out. Again taking the tine to search the 24 cells that were for winter storage till spring burial each has is 34 inches wide 26 inch height and 8 feet deep.
At some point we are going to have to digital storage these records using volunteers versus a paid service that we could not afford. Hopefully next week the Trustees meet to look over this and approve of the purchase of a couple of laptops that DO NOT HAVE WINDOWS 11 in them! The last part is that refuse to further work with Windows 11 just to many problems as to how to safely store our records and just who owns them.
We have been busy with burials and I am getting information on a rental of a skid steer to use in the clean up of dirt around the burials. Again to be brought up next week.
We are still looking for someone that would like to assume the position of Superintendent of Grounds! This positionis to find and certified a Gravesite and contact our service to dig a full or Creamation burial and be there on that day to supervise and receive the body along with record the paperwork and do the deposit of the money. We would also like a treasurer vs going to a paid service that we really do not need to pay what they are asking for on a monthly basis.

So moving the Cemetery forward we are now locating the boundaries of 3 sections adding about 300 new lots for sale in the front of the Cemetery on the Clayville side. With this we will still about 3500 lots to sell that we know are clean sites vs trying to fit lots into highly developed areas of the Cemetery. We will try to encourage all lot owners to give serous thought into buying their Headstone vs having others purchase what they feel you want . Now for some imput from lot owners should we apply for lots just for Creamation Burial these would be a 4 foot by 5 foot lot that would allow possible use of 9 urns to that site vs the 4 foot by 10 foot that allows for a full casket burial first then two urns on top of the casket? This new type of lots would allow family members to on a smaller foot print having a single Headstone list those buried there. Again we are only asking if you think this is a good way forward and in a special section just for this type of burials. When that section is sold out we would again ask if an other section should be sold the same way.
On an other subject we ask form your thoughts on if we should look into security system to at least give us proof on vandalism (sadly after the fact )? Also the ditch on Church Road will soon be a culvert ( underground) any thoughts on looking into a fence of some kind to protect the Cemetery?

This would look nice along the side of Church Road at the Cemetery! We have 7 form the revolutionary war as well as about 100 from the civil war add WW1 and WW2 withe Korea and Vietnam we have over 600 veterans in our Cemetery. We need volunteers to help with this a way to make the Sauquoit Valley mean something! Any one willing to step up and make happen? Then after wards using that we go for National Historic Site getting State at the same time! What a way to get the Valley’s history public!

Last nite we held the annual lot owners meeting sadly as usual we had a good turnout of our Trustees and very few lot owners. Our financial report was given by our past treasurer and trustee and approved by the Trustees. We have one new trustee who also accepted to be our new secretary. All of the other members where re elected withe the class of 2026 now to 2029 . I was voted to remain President for an other year. We will be seeking quotes to replace the roof on the chapel. We our also getting a quote for cameras to at least have evidence of vandalism we expect this to be rather costly and might need to not be able to do this year. The website is moving along hopefully with many features that work in today’s world of doing business. We are still moving slowly on the application for national historic status we need folks to help with this. We are seeking someone who wants to be Superintendent of grounds most importantly we need a good person to fill the treasurer position!
Where the cemetery has excellent financial resources we have literally no real staff to run the cemetery and are trying not to go to paid professional services due to tat cost would not be spent in the cemetery itself volunteers have been running this cemetery for the last 175 years donated countless hours of labor. One last point donations for the upkeep are more than welcome one of the biggest expenses will Beto insure our roads valued at replacement cost close to $800,000.00 dollars is well maintained for the future generations.
The present board is trying as well as they can to keep the cemetery a lot owned and run cemetery we need your help both in volunteer as well as donations to get what our funds can not do get done!

This would be a great opportunity for the Sauquoit Valley School to do! As the Sauquoit Valley Cemetery has seven Revolutionary war soldiers buried here one possible Boston Tea Party member. The valley is rich with historical significance and many well know families just think of all of the roads that are named after families!
Time for the youth to learn and research our history and heritage skills they need to have in today’s world.

So with the way the ground is to avoid anymore damage we are at present leaving the extra soil from burials near the grave till we can remove it without doing damage. This is due to today we had two burials and the dump truck sank into the ground as it has every time this spring the subsoil is much wetter than normal. We apologize to any that feels this is wrong only as volunteers most in their late years and no equipment to help this is what we have.

So here’s the deal we need more lot owners to step up and be willing to give of their time to help do the administrative work of running this Cemetery! At present we have a President and Vice President trying to keep things going and both have their own personal lives to live beside the Cemetery. Rumors about the Cemetery being bankrupt are not true only being bankrupt of willing people to work behind the scenes in running, paying bills, lot sales these jobs are not even close to be put out to a paid staff with all of the extra cost in having payroll. Also at present it looks like due to anyone willing the Cemetery will not be able to bury in July due no one here to locate and be there to do the burial it takes almost a year to fully be able to locate a lot that does not have a headstone on it as you have find 2 cornerstones 6 inches square placed in the ground years ago most have become overgrown or deeper in the ground to spot easily.
At present we have only one person capable to this so far no one has stepped up to volunteer to learn that being thr reaso for no burial
S in July.

So this Thursday night at 7 PM lot owners meeting at Sauquoit Valley United Methodist Church on Mohawk and Pinnacle Road to elect the Trustees and Officers of the Cemetery and other issues that need a vote to happen!

Just a reminder of the Lot Owners Meeting on May 21 at the Sauquoit Valley United Methodist Church on Mohawk Street and Pinnacle Road.

05/05/2026

Remember May 21 our annual lot owners meeting and report.
It’s going to be at the Sauquoit Valley United Methodist Church on the corner of Mohawk and Pinnacle at 7 PM!

To keep this Cemetery form going under we need volunteers to help due day to day activities as well as those willing to do the paperwork and help with burial activities such as grave logistics. At present only one person is trying to get this done ,that person has ba passion for the cemetery only needs not to be hostage to the cemetery. Most interments now get as little as 72 hours notice to research and mark out and call for the grave to be opened. Then spend most of that day at the cemetery! That’s asking a lot of one volunteer then do the required paperwork and deposit of the money.
