💙🐾 Today, Athletes for Animals was proud to support the Slumber Pawty by dropping off some morning treats to help fuel the incredible shelter staff, volunteers, and everyone participating in this special event.

It’s small moments like these—showing up, encouraging one another, and giving a little extra—that help keep this life-saving work going strong.

A very special thank you to our amazing board member, Renah Jones, for helping make this happen. We’re so grateful for your heart and dedication.

💙🐾 In Loving Memory of Kory Knapp — the beloved brother of Kelly Backes 🐾💙

Today would have been my brother Kory’s 40th birthday.

Kory had a deep love for all animals — one of the purest parts of who he was. He was empathetic, sensitive, and caring to his core. He loved nothing more than riding his Harley with his dog, Benny, safely strapped to his back — those simple, joyful moments meant everything to him.

In his honor, we’re choosing to shine a little light on what feels like a somber day by giving back in a way that reflects our deep grief and love.

Today, we donated over 40+ toys, treats, chews, blankets, p**p bags, potty pads and supplies to Wags & Walks Nashville to help care for dogs and puppies waiting for their second chance.

It’s a small gesture, but one filled with meaning. A reminder that even in deep loss, love continues — and it can still make a difference. And maybe more than anything, a reminder to lead with kindness… to show up for others… because we never truly know what someone else may be carrying.

Kory, we miss you. We carry you with us. And today, we celebrate you the only way we know how. 💙

🎉🐾 The Shelter Slumber Pawty – Spay/Neuter Edition is almost here! 🐾🎉

We’re less than ONE week away from this incredible 24-hour event kicking off at Noon on Saturday, April 18th and we couldn’t be more excited!

Check out this video from Brad Thompson, A4A Ambassador, former MLB pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals, and a 2006 World Series Champion, sharing why this cause matters so much. ⚾️💙

At Athletes for Animals, we believe prevention is everything—and that’s why our grants are deeply focused on spay/neuter initiatives and TNR programs that help reduce overpopulation and save lives before animals ever enter shelters.

We’re proud to support organizations participating in the Shelter Slumber Pawty Spay & Neuter Edition happening later this month! 🐾

This incredible St. Louis event brings together animal advocates who spend 24 hours inside shelters living alongside the animals, raising funds, and sharing their stories to increase awareness and support.

It’s more than just a fundraiser, it’s a powerful way to shine a light on the real-life experiences of shelter pets while supporting critical programs like spay and neuter initiatives that help reduce overpopulation and save lives.

This week, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on one of our incredible grant recipients — Islands Feral Cat Project 💙

Thanks to your support, they are doing amazing work in the animal welfare space with lifesaving spay/neuter efforts through community outreach. Every day, they are showing up with compassion, commitment, and a whole lot of heart to make life better for animals in need.

Because of partners like Islands Feral Cat Project, more animals are finding safety, healing after preventative S/N efforts, and loving homes—and that’s something worth celebrating. 🙌🐶🐱

There are so many animals across the country with love to give—waiting patiently in shelters and rescues for someone to see them, choose them, and love them. This Valentine’s Day, we encourage you to visit a shelter near you and support in any way you can: foster, adopt, donate, or simply share their stories.

Love is what makes the world a little sweeter and sometimes it has four legs, a wagging tail, and the biggest heart of all. 💕

🎉🐾 BIG NEWS from Athletes for Animals! 🐾🎉

After many months of careful review (and more than a few long conversations along the way 😊), we’re excited to finally share the results of our Fall 2025 Grant Cycle!

This was one of the most competitive cycles we’ve experienced, with over 200 applications submitted by incredible organizations across North America. We do not take this process lightly — every application was reviewed with care, intention, and deep respect for the important work being done on the front lines for animals in need.

We are proud to announce that 86 lifesaving projects will be funded through this grant cycle. 💙

These grants will support:

🐶 Spay & Neuter initiatives — including programs like Helping Paws Fund, which covers 100% of S/N costs for families in need

🐱 TNR (“Snip & Tip”) events that humanely stabilize community cat populations

🎓 Lifesaving training programs for shelters and rescue teams

📚 Education and community outreach programs that teach children humane care and compassion for animals

🧸 Shelter enrichment programs that improve quality of life for animals awaiting homes

To every organization receiving a grant this cycle — we are honored to support your work and grateful for the dedication and heart you bring to animals every single day.
