How do we put into words what the Dancing Butterfly Foundation has meant to us? That's such a difficult task, nearly impossible really. It started as a small whisper from God above, "Go, give to families who are going through what you have been through. Show my love to others by giving joy during one of the most difficult times in their life." We're so thankful we listened to that soft whisper for we have been beyond blessed by the whole experience. It's been nothing short of serendipitous really. It all started to help others, but in the end we feel like we are the lucky ones. We've met the most amazing families and truly remarkable, vibrant, and resilient children. We've been so fortunate to meet and befriend amazing healthcare workers and doctors. We've been awed by the generosity of donors and volunteers and the overall graciousness of people. All the while, we've been healing from hardest thing in our lives, losing our sweet Lyndsay. Each year has been part of the healing process, a journey really. Oh, we will never be fully healed at least not while we're still here on earth, but the Dancing Butterfly Foundation and all the experiences each year sure have helped us more than words could ever convey.

The next sentence may shock some of you, but we feel the soft whisper pulling us elsewhere now. We've entered a new phase of life, and it's time to move into different areas of service. We do not fully understand yet what those will be, but we know it is the right time. Trust us when we say, the decision to dissolve the Dancing Butterfly Foundation has come with lots of introspective soul-searching and prayer. The decision has not been a easy one to say the least. We know we will miss it deeply, but we also know that when God calls, we must listen.

We want to offer our sincere thanks to each and every one of you who have supported us along the way. Whether you started the journey with us or jumped on board in just the last couple years, we hope you know how much your encouragement and support truly mean to us. Without each of you, none of this would have been possible. Because of you, we have donated countless toys, games, books, etc., and we've offered financial support to families who desperately needed it for the last 18 years.

This year we are not asking for donations, instead we will spend through our reserves and give what we have remaining to local hospitals, Ronald McDonald Houses, and families who are in need. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts again for all you have done to support us the last 18 years. It's been a miraculous, joyous journey, and we're so thankful you have all been a part of it!

Struggling a bit this year I must admit. Usually my timeline is full of posts and pictures like these below. I have no pictures this year that the toys have been delivered but they have! I have so much fun shopping for and meeting friends to pick up toys, and then making sure the toys get sorted, logged, bagged, and then finally get them all delivered to bring joy to those who desperately need it. I’m sad that things aren’t like they normally are. A lot of love, hard work, true friendships, and gratitude goes into what we do with Dancing Butterfly. But I realized, although things are different this year all those same things are in what we’ve given this year. I sure have missed meeting friends to pick things up or drop things off. But the love is still here, and the hard work is still being done, and the true friends who help have still helped, and my gratitude for all of the above is present more than ever. And more important the JOY that will take place when these sweet families receive gifts this year is still here! No COVID can stop that from happening! COVID is the Grinch! But it can’t stop Christmas from coming; it will come just the same! 🦋❤️🌲

Had lots of fun ordering for a new clinic this year! The Child Life Soecialist I used to work with at the UNC Pediatric Oncogy Clinic moved to the UNC Children’s Specialty Clinic this year. They serve kids with Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes, and other life threatening conditions. It’s been a rough year of quarantine for these families and kids too, so we’re happy to bring a little joy to their lives! ❤️ Thanks for making this possible!

I was super exciting to open my emails this morning! Thank you to all who have given to us so far, we truly appreciate it!

I was also in touch with the UNC Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic this week and received the following email from Stacie Anderson:

"Amy,
I hope you are doing well and thank you for always thinking about us!! You are so thoughtful!!
I agree that during this time I would prefer to have things sent to our clinic and keep our families safe. We are accepting amazon packages directly to our clinic. I have attached our donation guidelines and our amazon wish list. Right now we are very low on gift cards for the teenagers, super hero items, princess items, and Legos (just to name a few). We appreciate anything that you will be sending our way. Honestly, it’s like Christmas when Child Life opens these boxes (haha)!!!"

So with that being said, we will also be providing toys and gift cards for the UNC Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic this year, which as you all know has a very special place in our hearts, because they took such great care of our sweet girl!

So after a lot of thinking and praying and checking with places we typically donate to, we have decided to not collect toys this year. Currently, we are unable to give them to the organizations we give to because of the safety of the families they serve and for the safety of their employees. The less contact from the public the better, and I completely understand that 100%. If Lyndsay were still here during this COVID-19 pandemic, I too would not want her to be exposed to any unnecessary germs, especially ones that could potentially be deadly. Sadly, we simply do not have the space to store a large number of toys for extended periods of time. So this year we will forego conducting a toy drive as we normally do, but I will be asking for funding for the following: I have been in contact with UNC Children’s Hospital, and they are going to be forwarding me an Amazon wish list. We will order toys from Amazon and have them sent directly to UNC Children’s Hospital. We will also try to help families with children battling life-threatening illnesses financially. We hope things improve to enable us to give more soon.

If you are interested in helping out this year in our scaled down version of giving, we’d sincerely appreciate it. But we also realize that 2020 has been a difficult year financially for some, so please know we completely understand that as well. Thank you so much for all the support both financially and prayerfully! We truly appreciate all of you, because without each of you, there would be no Dancing Butterfly Foundation.
